After Indic Wikisource Community Consultation 2018 in Kolkata in 2018, the CIS-A2K conducted the Wikisource workshops in different languages. Among them were Punjabi Wikisource Workshop, Patiala, Gujarati Wikisource Workshop, Ahmedabad Marathi Wikisource Workshop, Pavel, Tamil Wikisource Workshop, Salem and Assamese Wikisource Workshop, Guwahati Wikisource community. CIS-A2K conducted all these Wikisource workshops in 2019.

Today, after 3 years of the Covid Pandemic, we want to go back again to those Wikisource language communities, Where the language community stands today after we planned and worked three years ago for those communities. We will plan to revisit to same communities to discuss, develop, and strengthen to the next level.

CIS-A2K will conduct an advanced level Wikisource workshop, continuous sustainable road maps, future plan, and GLAM development towards Wikisource project in respective languages.

Report[edit]

The last workshop for Gujarati Wikisource was held in 2019. After such a long gap due to COVID, during the Gujarati Wikisource Workshop at Ahmedabad, India,User:Sushant savla and User:Gazal world requested to conduct a Wikisource-specific Workshop for Gujaratie Wikisource Community at Ahmedabad. The community planned this workshop with a concise duration and CIS-A2K has tried to organise it at their best effort. So CIS-A2K team conducted a workshop for GujaratiCommunity at Ahmedabad. A total of 10 participants were present at this event. Some feedback can be found here.

The following objectives were planned for this workshop and meetup.

  • To enhance the quality & skills of active GujaratiWikisource editors.
  • To explain the group to Advance Wikisource tools.
  • To encourage Wiki librarians to meet each other face to face as hosts after a 3-year gap.

Activity[edit]

Day 0

Day 0 Most of all participants came in at night or late at night so we have no Day0 official discussion.

Day 1

Day 1 began with an introduction round and during the introduction round, the participants briefly shared about their wiki activities. The Wikisource workshop session started with a brief introduction. where we have discussed what is Wikisource, Why Wikisource and its potential Scope GujaratiWikisource Explain. Copyright Status of a Book explained. Workflow of Wikisource (Upload, Index file, OCR, Proofread, Validate, Transclusion) and Indic Wikisource Stats. A hands-on session was conducted on proofreading sessions versus books.

Day 2

During the workshop and meetup some of the topics discussed/trained were:

  1. Scope GujaratiWikisource Explain.
  2. Copyright Status of a Book explained.
  3. Workflow of Wikisource (Upload, Index file, OCR, Proofread, Validate, Transclusion)
  4. Indic Wikisource Stats Explain.
  5. Indic OCR Explain
  6. Most used templates/best practices in Wikisource.
  7. Transclusion explain
  8. all other advanced level skills have been shared with the community as per their needs and agenda.

Learnings[edit]

  • Conduct the workshop even if the low participation is very good.
  • Organised a workshop/ Meetup for a small community always.
  • Community needs backup support for scanning work to increase the number of books in Gujarati Wikisource.
