Goals and measures of success
[edit]Project goal
[edit]- The goal of this project is to recruit new users and develop offline community of Wikipedia bahasa Indonesia. The community will also promote Wikipedia and its sister projects, and increase awareness on Wikipedia's volunteerism philosophy (which is a big deal considering only 47% of Wikipedia visitors know that Wikipedia is written by volunteers when the main reason Indonesian Wikipedians signed up is because they want to be a volunteer).
Measures of success
[edit]- Expected Direct Impact
- Total participant: 540 at the end of the project
- Active Wikipedian Engaged: at least 10 per event
- New Wikipedian: 145 at the end of the project
- 20 of all edit-a-thon participants (10%) will have reached their 100 edits mark six months after their date of sign-up
- Expected Indirect Impact from community activities
- Active Wikipedians (>100 edits): 70 Wikipedians in end of May 2015
- Facebook fans page member: 100.000 total members in end of May 2015
- Awareness on Wikipedia's volunteerism philosophy: Increased from 47% to 80% in end of May 2015
Project scope and activities
[edit]Format
[edit]Our activities can be categorized into three categories:
- Ngewiki Berjamaah – Wiki-a-thon
We called this kind of event “Ngewiki-Berjamaah”. In these events, we choose a featured article from English Wikipedia, then translate it together. Each participant will be given a task to translate one or several subsections of the article until the article completed. By doing this, we introduce and impose the concept of collaboration in Wikipedia, and teach new members how to write for Wikipedia in the most informal, enjoyable, yet effective way. We have done this in August and created several articles in the process.
- WikiStorming – Sharing and Discussion
We called this kind of event “WikiStorming”. In these events, participants are encourage to make 2 minutes presentation about one topic (for example, how to increase collaboration in Wikipedia), after which the community will discuss the idea and execute it together. We have done this kind of event in May 2013.
- WikiSharing – Seminar
In WikiSharing events, we choose speakers and initiate talks on one topic, especially in free culture and free knowledge movement.

Impact
[edit]In the sections below, please describe how the project is related to the Wikimedia mission and Wikimedia's strategic priorities.
Fit to strategy
[edit]- How will this project support the key organizational objectives of
- increasing reach (more people will access or contribute to Wikipedia or our other projects),
- participation (more people actually contributing),
- quality (more content, more useful content, or higher-quality content),
- credibility (more trust in our projects),
- organizational maturity and effectiveness (how it will move you or the Wikimedia community forward),
- or financial sustainability (how it will help you achieve more in the long run)?
- This statement should address at least one of the strategic priorities listed here specifically. See WMF Grants Program criteria for decisionmaking.
- This project ensure the continuity of Wiki-ID community and our effort to promote Wikipedia. The community itself will support Wikimedia key objectives by:
- Increasing reach and quality: Our main activity are to give a tutorial on how to write Wikipedia. We have proven concept of training (we call it "ngewiki berjamaah"). Our biggest tutorial session was attended by 30 people.
- Increasing participation: our community is not only foster online contribution, but also offline contribution. Our member is growing fast from 2 people in June to 17 people that contribute to the effort of promoting Wikipedia. We also have community partners that have committed to help our effort to spread free knowledge.
- Credibility: We introduce what is Wikipedia, what is its philosophy, and—more importantly—how it works, so the trainee and our partners will understand Wikipedia's procedure and policy to control the quality of its content, which in turn will increase Wikipedia credibility.
- Organizational maturity and effectiveness: We support (and be supported by) Wikimedia Indonesia and its effort to promote Wikipedia. We have different approach (we focus more on non-competitive approaches e.g. meetups, collaboration events, etc) but our key goals are essentially the same so the growth of our community will benefits Wikimedia Indonesia.
- Financial sustainability: We have a concept called Wiki-Indigo (on going), a fundraising effort to support our objective. But it needs more volunteers and contributors before it's able to be executed. This one year project will help us to gather more supporters and eventually make this future fundraising project happens.
Benefits
[edit]- If the project will benefit a specific online community, please tell us.
- This will benefit Wikipedia bahasa Indonesia by increasing the number of active contributors through series of workshops.
- Please provide a brief statement about how the project is related to other work in the Wikimedia movement. For example, does the project fit into a work area such as GLAM, education, organizational development, editor retention, or outreach?
- This projects will grow our community, that in turn will help Wikimedia Indonesia to achieve its goal.
- If successful, will the project have the potential to be replicated successfully by other individuals, groups, or organizations? Please explain how in 1–2 sentences.
- We have developed a structured method that can be easily replicated by the others. We will keep improve the method through this project, document it, and will share it for other organization to use.
- Please list other benefits to the movement here.
- In the future, our community will also support other Wikipedias (like jv, bms, and su) and other Wikimedia's project.
