Activities and lessons learned[edit]

This section describes what the grantee did, and what the grantee learned from implementing the project. This section should be useful to others implementing similar projects and is an opportunity for the grantee to reflect on the project's performance.

Activities[edit]

Provide a detailed list of activities performed to complete this project, descriptions of these activities, and the amount of time spent on each activity. This section should also include a list of participants, or a link to pictures, blog posts, or videos from the project or event.
  • Wikipedia competition:
    • WMSK was engaged in making of rules, election of articles to participate, election of jury, election of prizes, informing (global banner), creation of on-wiki page, helping to participants, informing winners and local Wikipedia community. Preparation lasted several months, one meeting in person took place.
  • Outreach
    • printing pens with logo of Slovak Wikipedia and dissemination during meeting, speaks, conferences
    • making business cards for our activists
  • Administration (2% of taxes)
    • on our official page was created infopage, overview of activity and the webpage was modified to be nicer
    • informing about the possibility to donate was spreeded on our social sites and slovak Wikipedia
    • some routine administrative was needed (about 3 hours of work)
  • Travel
    • travel to speaks leaded by WMSK or with WMSK as participant, see Wikimedia Slovakia/Reports/2013#Others
    • travel to partners for competition "Day of financial literacy with Wikipedia 2014" (following succes of the last year competition)
    • conference of non-formal education in Slovakia "Ways to good school" (30.5.2014)

Lessons learned[edit]

What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects, or that may change the way you are doing this project?
What went well, or is going well?
Donation campaign and Wikipedia contest were really successful. There was interest for speaks leaded by WMSK, as we have received invitations (in compare to making offers).
What did not go well, or is not going well?
Work on the grant projects follow the current situation in WMSK, as key activists have many work in and outside of Wikimedia movement and so their spare time is more limited than in past. This is main reason for postponed start of some projects (especially reimbursing travel costs for Commons photographers). Also not fully launched organizational infrastructure (tracker system etc.) prevents or slow the projects.
From your answers above, do you plan to change anything you are doing as your project continues?
In general, WMSK needs more activists and project leaders. In near future will be published new proposals for our members for concrete work and they will be asked to propose new projects or improve existing ones. We are contacting people from similar movements to find new collabourators and members of our target groups. Tighter contacts with public will be established after launching new blog.

Project goal and measures of success[edit]

This section should reference the project goals and measures of success described in the approved grant submission. See Grants:PEG/Wikimedia Slovakia/Start-up/Report to review the goals and metrics listed in the approved submission.

Project goal[edit]

Provide the project goal here.
"Third goal is to test new projects (see below)." (as the grant has 3 goals and this report cover this one)
Do you expect to reach your project's goal? Why or why not?
  • Testing is touched especially by reimbursing travel costs for Commons photographers and GLAM. Nor one of this projects is launched yet and especially the reimbursing will be negatively affected. There is possibility, that we will need longer time for testing this project. About GLAM project we have discused with WUG Esperanto kaj Libera Scio and E@I about scanning book, goal of this project should be reached.
  • Project "Day of financial literacy" has changed rules so the allocated fund was shifted to reserve.
  • Primary goal of Outreach should be reached. We have produced Wikipedia pens and are preparing leaflets.
  • 2% of taxes: This project is successful yet. Investment of 53.80 € WMSK have received donations of 2 337,31 €.

Measures of success[edit]

List the measures of success exactly as provided in the approved grant submission, and evaluate your project according to each measure listed there. Answer only for measures on which you are currently able to report since your project has not been completed.
thematic Wikipedia contest (already in preparation)
  • amount of new or existing editors participated
  • added new content in sum
outreach
  • proposals for collaboration from another organisations (GLAM etc)
  • new editors (hardly evaluable)
  • more trust in wiki projects amid Slovak public (very very very hardly evaluable...)
reimbursement of travel costs for Commons photographers
  • proof if the project fit for us
  • amount of new photos on Commons
  • amount of newly shoted objects on Commons
GLAM activities
  • proof if the project fit for us
Provide an overall assessment of how your project is going according to these measures.
  • Thematic Wikipedia contest was succesful. Participated 38 editors (two times more than expected), many of them new ones. The result was 33 new articles and 14 enhanced.
  • Outreach: We have received invitations for speaks and seminars from Slovakia schools and 1 NGO. On personal meetings participants asserted to have more trust in wiki projects (but the statistical sample was quite small).
  • Reimbursement of travel costs for Commons photographers: Project not launched - no information.
  • GLAM activities: Project not launched - no information.
While doing this project, have you decided to track any other measures of success not listed in your grant submission? If so, please list them here.
  • Wikipedia contest:
  • Rate of old users and newcommers participated in contest.
  • Outreach:
  • Number of mention of WMSK / wiki projects / wikimedia movement in massmedia (inspired / proposed by us)
