6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

With the successes we achieved in our past projects, we organized several events with the support of internal resources, including one in collaboration with the Wikimedia Community Arusha. These events were highly successful, and we recruited over 35 participants who received training on Wikimedia Projects. They were able to create Wikipedia accounts and had their first editing experience. The dedication and enthusiasm of the people in Tabora regarding Wikimedia projects inspired us to form an informal group called 'Wikimedians of Tabora.' This group consists of librarians, academicians, and other individuals in the Tabora Region of Western Tanzania. This proposal aims to secure more support to accommodate the growing number of dedicated Wikimedians and address the following challenges by implementing the various approaches described below;

Low Participation: One major challenge is the relatively low number of Wikipedia editors in Western Tanzania, specifically Tabora. This is due to a lack of awareness about Wikimedia projects.

Knowledge Gap: Tabora is rich in history, culture, and local knowledge, but it is underrepresented on Wikimedia projects due to a lack of active contributors.

Participant Drop-Off: Many individuals may initially express interest in Wikipedia editing but eventually disengage due to various reasons, including a lack of support and motivation.

Strategies for Bringing About Change:

Training and Skill Development: We will offer comprehensive training programs to teach Wikipedia editing skills, ranging from basic to advanced, for both new and experienced editors.

Content Improvement: Participants will be encouraged and guided to contribute to Wikipedia articles, ensuring that the information is well-researched, accurate, and properly cited.

Recognition and Rewards: We will recognize and celebrate the contributions of active participants. We will also consider introducing rewards or certificates to incentivize ongoing participation.

Feedback and Improvement: We will establish a feedback mechanism to gather input from participants. This feedback will be used to make necessary improvements and adjustments in our community.

These approaches will help promote awareness of Wikimedia projects in Western Tanzania, bridge the contributor and knowledge gaps, and lead to impactful contributions on Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

We will implement the strategies described to bring about change by conducting the following activities:

1.Training Workshops: We will organize a series of training events for both experienced contributors and newcomers. These events will provide participants with essential skills for Wikimedia projects, including editing skills and a general awareness of Wikimedia projects.
2.Edit-a-thons: We will host a series of edit-a-thons to give participants hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply what they have learned.
3.Writing Contests: Additionally, we will organize local contests and offer prizes to the winners as a way to incentivize participation.
4.Community Gathering Events: Finally, we will bring the entire community together for the purpose of sharing experiences and gathering feedback from participants, which will help us make further improvements to the community.
8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.
