This project focuses on empowering community members by enhancing their skills, improving retention, and encouraging consistent engagement among new and experienced editors in Nupe Wikipedia projects. We also aim to introduce the community to various Wikimedia initiatives, broadening their awareness of diverse contribution opportunities to other sister projects, especially Wiktionary (https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wt/nup), where lexicons can be created, used for language understanding, and documented for future reference.
Our initial awareness project was highly successful (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/Rapid_Fund/Nupe_Wikipedia_Awakening:Inspiring_Awareness_and_Incubator_Advancement_in_Niger_State,_Nigeria_(ID:_22446264)), demonstrating participants' motivation to contribute to Wikimedia projects. This will notably elevate the Nupe language, currently in the Incubator stage, to those tagged among Wikipedias that might get their own site soon: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Incubator:Main_Page/en.
This accomplishment attracted interest, and we plan to leverage this momentum to create valuable resources for wider distribution. Mentorship and support will be provided by team members to assist community members in effectively contributing to Wikimedia, especially navigating the Incubator, which requires some expertise and guidance for newcomers.
Recognizing the importance of partnerships and collaboration with academic institutions, which we have done in our previous grant (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GFN_BLlPiPZ3-mOQP3t74z9HZxzHT7ha/view?usp=drivesdk), we will actively continue to engage with them to expand Nupe language contributors. These collaborations aim to cultivate a dynamic and sustainable language community within Wikimedia projects.

We are dedicated to furthering community engagement by introducing new Wikimedia initiatives and building on the success of community members who are contributing to the creation of the Nupe Wikipedia (https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/nup/Dana_Gbangba). To achieve this, we are arranging a series of training workshops that will actively involve our community. These workshops, both in-person and online, are designed to acquaint participants with Wikimedia projects and provide essential training.
In addition, we have planned online events to facilitate project discussions, provide insights into upcoming developments, and offer assistance to newcomers. Our overall objective is to empower our community members, enabling them to make effective contributions to Wikimedia projects and enhance our chances of getting our own language site submitted to Langcom (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Nupe) and being recognized by Affcom (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Nupe_Wikimedians_User_Group).

Our program aims to engage a diverse range of participants, including existing members of the Nupe Wikimedia Community, Nupe natives, and anyone who can contribute to the project in Nupe Language. We recognize the importance of maintaining communication with our participants and plan to utilize various platforms such as WhatsApp (https://chat.whatsapp.com/Kc1ADPPKwQ18lLrC0s8VT8) , Telegram (https://t.me/+OBNT8hbA_WswYzE0) and social media. To ensure continued participation and retention after the project implementation, we have developed a series of strategies. Firstly, we will collect usernames and contact information through feedback forms to keep track of our participants. Secondly, we will offer optional mailing lists for those interested in staying updated on future events. We also plan to identify the most active, knowledgeable, and motivated contributors and invite them to future events, providing them with opportunities to take on leadership roles within the community.

1. We aim to acquire a comprehensive insights into the language and culture of the Nupe people, currently absent in Wikipedia.
2. Our objective is to disseminate additional knowledge about Wikipedia and its related projects to fellow participants.
3. We anticipate learning from editors and Wikipedia users about effective information management for educational purposes, leveraging the content available on Wikipedia.
