The Federal Ministry of Education's policies in Nigeria, prioritize Information and Communications Technology as a 21st-century skill that provides access to information online but provide little stimulation for prioritizing digital literacy and Open Educational Resources to develop vital Media and Information Literacy skills for secondary school students in Nigeria. Most of these students do not understand how information is produced, access and evaluated online to understand biases and knowledge gaps. Research has shown that most of the Edtech partners focused only on developing alternative learning models for the new normal.
In an era marked by the rapid proliferation of information and the omnipresence of digital media, the need for robust Media and Information Literacy (MIL) skills has never been more critical. The proliferation of information online has increased misinformation and disinformation among students and teachers who resort to using internet for various purposes. The forthcoming follow-up edition of the program is designed to target secondary school students within Abuja, Nigeria. This program will work along with teachers who have graduated from Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Abuja program 2023. These teachers will learn how to step down the training to their students in the classroom. It aims to build their capacity in Media and Information Literacy skills and empower them with the tools to navigate the digital landscape effectively. The program will also introduce them to the world of Open Education Resources (OER) and illustrate how these resources can complement their learning journeys. Moreover, it will foster a culture of lifelong learning, equipping students with skills that will not only serve them in the classroom but throughout their lives. This project will help correct.

In a society where online engagement is increasingly integral to everyday life, these skills are indispensable.
- 3. Cultivating Lifelong Learners: Perhaps most importantly, this program aspires to cultivate a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom. Students who possess strong MIL skills and know how to harness OER are more likely to become lifelong learners, continuously seeking knowledge and self-improvement.
In conclusion, the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Abuja Program for secondary school students represents an invaluable opportunity to equip the next generation with the skills and tools they need to thrive in the digital age. By building their capacity in Media and Information Literacy skills, introducing them to Open Education Resources, and nurturing lifelong learning habits, we aspire to empower students to become responsible, informed, and active participants in the 21st-century world. Project goal: To train 60 teachers on Media and Information Literacy and create awareness among 300 students on Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program. The aim of the program is extending the training to 6 secondary schools after the first pilot program that was implemented in Abuja, Nigeria 2023. We intend to localize and increase the number of certified teachers to 60 by recruiting 6 certified teachers that were trained at the first pilot program in Abuja, Nigeria. The six (6) certified teachers we trained in the first pilot program in Abuja will serve as co trainers by stepping down the training to ten (10) teachers in each school, there will be a total of 60 teachers, from six (6) selected secondary schools in Abuja, Nigeria.
The goal of this program is to deepen and improve the teacher's skills on effective usage of Wikipedia for learning and also help them foster media and information literacy skills before March 2024.
After these certified teachers step down the training in 6 six secondary school, the newly trained teachers will create awareness among 300 students across 6 secondary schools by creating awareness and educating 50 students each from 6 secondary school with Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom students guide.
This strategy will help in expanding the program to six (6) secondary schools in Abuja and also encourage the creation of Wiki-club through the influence of their teachers in the schools for continuous effective engagement. The teachers who enrolls in this program, will be able to understand, access, retrieve, and evaluate information on Wikipedia and its sister projects.
The planned activities in this program have been divided into parts namely:
Part 1: The leader trainers will work with the 6 selected certified teachers to trained other at least 10 teachers from their school in Abuja, Nigeria .The six (6) teachers that will be recruited are certified teacher’s trainers who we trained during the first pilot program in Abuja Part one (1) training activities Day 1: Module 1: Accessing information Learning Outcomes A. teachers will be able to distinguish different types of digital learning resources B. teachers will be able to debate the merits of Wikipedia as a sources of information C. teachers will be able to use Wikipedia to gain a general understanding of a topic. Part two (2) The goal of the part two (2) is to create awareness among 300 students on media and information literacy skills through the use of Wikipedia in their class room. We intend to engage ten (10) of the new certified teachers that participated in part one(1) from each school to create awareness and also educate at least 50 students from their school. Our target is to reach 300 secondary school students who will be aware of Wikipedia as a learning resource that will support their learning and also improve their understanding of media and information literacy skills through the use of Wikipedia. Part two (2) training activities:
- 1. To engage ten (10) of the trained teacher to organize their students and create awareness among 50 students in their school on UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Framework as a teaching tool to help students grasp the various phases of the information cycle.
- 2. Students will be inspired and giving orientation on the benefits and why they should use Wikipedia as learning tool to improve their media and information literacy skills.
- 3. Ten (10) of the certified teachers from each school will educate at least 50 Students on the various uses of the Wikimedia project which will improve their perception of Wikipedia and other sister projects
- 4. A set of certified teachers will use the Wikipedia knowledge quest to instruct pupils about the Wikipedia basic content policies.
- 5. Certified RWIC teachers will introduce the students on Wikipedia interface and how to navigate the interface.
- 6. Students from participating secondary schools are trained and recruited in Abuja for the Edu-Wiki secondary school club.

After the success of first implementation of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom for Teachers in Secondary School Students in Abuja, Nigeria. This project is school edition where teachers and students will be engaged and trained and it will be implemented by two Certified reading wikipedia in the class room trainers namely Dike Clement and Isamail Atiba who were two of the three certified trainers that Collaborated and led the first pilot program of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom, Abuja, Nigeria.

In the program, he is the 2nd lead trainer, he will be responsible for localizing curriculum, prepare data collection tools, distribute survey, analyze findings, Work on a part time capacity through out the period of the program from planning, implementation, evaluation and report writing. The target participants are are teachers and students in secondary schools in Federal Capital Abuja, Nigeria. We are reaching to teachers and students in 3 secondary school, Abuja. 3 Certified RWIC Teachers who participated in the first pilot program in Abuja will be part of the implementation. We have already being invited by 3 of these teachers who have graduated from this first pilot program. A total of 3 teachers will work as step- down trainers and each teacher will educate a minimum of 30 students on media and information literacy skills using the students guides. The teachers and students will be engaged through the class room and offline training and after the training we will create a feedback and follow up strategy by creating an online channel like Telegram, Facebook and whats-app group. Our follow up strategy will help provide participants feedback, links or training support on Wikipedia and its' sister project.
In addition, the follow up strategy will help us to evaluate the impact of the program. We will engage students At the end of the program, We will be encouraging the teachers and students to continue to improve their media and information literacy skills through Wikipedia by creating a reading Wikipedia in the classroom club in the school.

We want to evaluate whether Wikipedia can improve the teachers and students capacity on media and information literacy skills (MIL) and How many students that accept that the use of Wikipedia as an effective tool for Learning and also if it has empowered them with the tools to navigate the digital landscape effectively.
Secondly, we will evaluate if Wikipedia as an OER can help students foster a culture of lifelong learning, equipping them with life skills that will not only serve them in the classroom but throughout their lives.
We will design an evaluation questions using evaluation instrument such as pre- and post-tests to evaluate their learning outcomes. We will assess teachers and students awareness on the use of Wikipedia as an alternative format for learning , in addition , we will evaluate if students have improved in perception on the relevant of Wikipedia portal as a tool to for conducting reliable and effective research and also determine their digital readiness and resolve to use Wikipedia for as learning support. We will also evaluate the outcome, impact of extending the program to secondary schools by observing students, teachers, perception and acceptability of the program by these schools and documents every challenges and lessons learned during the implementation and if there will be opportunities to extend the program in other parts of Abuja.

The performance and effectiveness of this program among teachers and students will be evaluated by reading Wikipedia certified trainers through an evaluation strategy.
Their assignments, and quiz will be marked and those who pass will be issued a certificate for participation.
Our target is that at least by the end of the training, 45 teachers who have successfully completed the training will get certified as a Wikipedia teacher who have learnt how to use Wikipedia to foster media and information Literacy in their class room.
