1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

It supports the easy translation of leads of improved medical articles from MDWiki.org into other languages of Wikipedia. The use of MDWiki allows us to use easier to understand English (about a grade 12 reading level), which has been rejected by EN WP, but which is still too complex for simple EN. It also allows us to fix some of the issues that exist with Content Translation version 2 around reference formatting.

We have a number of improvements we wish to make:

1) Currently campaigns within the translation tool are built around one category known as RTT. We want to introduce further the ability to have further campaigns, for example we are working on a hearing related campaign with NIOSH and WHO.

2) We have a dashboard that automatically collects data on translations that occur through our system. https://mdwiki.toolforge.org/Translation_Dashboard/leaderboard.php We are wanting to make improvements to both the reliability and depth of the details we collect. For example we want to calculate our prior impact going back to 2010 when the translation taskforce launched.

3) We want to improve the bots and tools we have running on multiple languages of WP which clean up errors / formatting in articles. For example this tool shortens references which were previously expanded as a work around due to content translation dropping "ref name=" references https://es.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lesi%C3%B3n_del_ligamento_cruzado_anterior&type=revision&diff=147566328&oldid=147564969 But we want more tools such as one to move the punctuation for Japanese Wikipedia to before the reference rather than after as is the standard in English.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

We have a contractor who has developed our current translation dashboard and leader board. We plan to work with him further to implement the changes we are proposing.

This will improve our ability to collaborate with partners such as WHO, NIOSH, ProZ.com, Osmosis, and volunteer translators among others.

This effort revolves around building tools to simplify translation of high quality medical content and improve data collection so that we can show our impact.

Yes. We are currently working with a program, a number of partners, and a number of translators.

In many languages health care content is lacking. We will work to address this through translation work with partners such as ProZ.com, the World Health Organization, and NIOSH

We plan to also work on translating more VideoWikis, by introducing summary videos of topics this will help meet the needs of those with lower literacy.

We are recruiting translators from the volunteer translator community. We currently have 23 translators working in 11 different languages.

This work has been ongoing since 2011. It has been discussed on many different languages of Wikipedia and at multiple Wikimanias.

We are working with ProZ.com. They are working to launch a volunteer humanitarian effort as leaders in the translation industry. We bring high quality and high impact content in need of being translated as well as the technical infrastructure that makes translation easy, they bring a community of volunteer translators.

NIOSH / WHO are interested in improving access to hearing related content. They will bring content expertise while we will support the translation aspect of the collaboration.
