People with disabilities are one of the underrepresented groups in various sectors, including sports, education, employment, media representation, and societal inclusion. Stereotypes, stigma, prejudice, and discrimination against individuals with disabilities persist in various forms, contributing to social exclusion, marginalization, and disparities in opportunities, resources, and rights.

The lack of diverse and accurate representation encourages stereotypes, misconceptions, and biases about people with disabilities, reinforcing stigma and discrimination within the Wikimedia community. Articles, images, and content related to people with disabilities in sports, their achievements, challenges, and contributions in various fields, especially in sports, are limited compared to other topics. Their profiles, voices, stories, narratives, experiences, diverse perspectives, expertise, knowledge, achievements, and contributions to society are often overlooked, leading to gaps in representation, visibility, and recognition within the Wikimedia community, limiting the richness and inclusivity of content on Wikimedia platforms.

This project will enhance and support the creation, expansion, and improvement of content related to people with disabilities in sports, their experiences, achievements, and contributions across Wikimedia projects. It will also raise awareness, educate the Wikimedia community, contributors, and users about the importance of inclusion, representation, accessibility, and diversity of voices, perspectives, and experiences on Wikimedia platforms. It will provide opportunities to collaborate with advocates, organizations, communities, and stakeholders committed to promoting the rights, inclusion, and representation of people with disabilities in society. It will also encourage practices that support individuals with disabilities in accessing, contributing to, and engaging with Wikimedia platforms and content. It will also offer opportunities to document content related to people with disabilities in sports in our indigenous languages.
