Redlinks hunt

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Redlink is assigned to a topic or biography in need which is not existing on Wikipedia. This project is aimed at sorting out and creating such articles needed from redlinks which are identified in different articles on Hausa Wikipedia. These project will thus reduce the number of redlinks on Hausa Wikipedia Pages and as well fill the gap for such articles on demand, being marked with redlinks.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

I have organized Wikipedia awareness in Zaria before and registered a number of newbies. This project will engage these newbies in an editathon that will inspire them to keep contributing to Wikipedia. A list of articles in redlink will be drawn and participants will be guided on how to create those articles or translate if available on English Wikipedia.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
  1. We will organise two in-person trainings, and an online training on Zoom. The online training will serve as an introduction to the project and some basic approaches like Redlinks and links meanings and significance on Wikipedia. Why Redlinks are created, and how to create such needed articles.
  2. An editathon will commence immediately after the training.
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

1Lib1Ref, WikiGap

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

  2. Alameen khalid will manage online awarenesses, mailing lists, contacts among others
  3. Abubakar Yusuf will lead the in-person activities, invitation and calls
  4. Uncle Bash will train newbies on how to make contributions to Wikipedia.
  5. We will all serve as jurors of the contest.

Content Gender gap, Language, Other global topics for impact (topics considered to be of global importance), Cultural background, ethnicity, religion, racial

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

This project will focus on filling the gender gap by calling on more female participants in contributing to the free encyclopedi and Hausa Wikipedia. Topics being assigned with Redlinks tend to be significant topics that needs to be filled. This project will fill these gaps

7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.

Education, Culture, heritage or GLAM , Advocacy

8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?

Gender Identity, Age

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

The target participants are mostly students previously registered and trained on Wikipedia. This project will tutor such newbies on how to create articles and/or translate articles.
