1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Documentation of Uganda Folklore. With globalization we currently see the loss of undocumented elements of our culture.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Our focus contentwise will be on uploads of media formats mainly (Audio, short videos, and pictures) on the topic of folklore culture in Uganda in the following disciplines: dance, traditional food, and cuisine, religion, clothing, music, games, seasonal events, calendar customs, the list is not exclusive, with the main objective of protecting Uganda’s intangible cultural heritage.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

To accomplish this we shall organize one editathon workshop which will serve as a hands-on opportunity to reach out to new and old members of the community whom we seek to recruit and maintain as active members of the community with this project.

A lot of Uganda’s folklore content has not been captured for sharing freely with the world, this project will ensure that an increased number of this content is captured, curated, and disseminated freely with everyone.

We shall publish the call for participation on the Wikimedia user group Uganda page well in advance of the event’s running period. We will engage potential participants through phone calls, our digital media platforms such as Telegram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and online advertisement as well as other means of mass communication focusing on inclusiveness to make sure participants come from all corners of Uganda.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

We shall strictly adhere to the safe space policy and also good conduct guidelines of the foundation

The initial communication was made during our strategic planning meeting to prepare members for this impending project and ask for their participation this being the inaugural event with the user group. We shall keep updating the membership through all available user group channels of communication as the campaign timeline nears.

This being my first grant project, I expect to learn new grant management skills, people management and accountability skills that will come in handy for all planned upcoming events.

We shall develop a project dashboard to which every participant will be encouraged to register, this will be our primary monitoring tool on the inner workings of the project timelines. Based on the statistics gathered it will be possible direct effort where needed to ensure the stated targets are accomplished.
