1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Problem Statement

  • WikiData is not familiar to Iraqi people.
  • Wikidata has low growth in Iraq, there are many Iraqi articles that don't contain data or their data is not added correctly.
  • The Iraqi people need to be aware of the importance of data and how to use WikiData to enrich Iraqi articles.

Solution/

  • Define Wikidata in the Iraqi community
  • Enrich Iraqi articles with the data needed
  • Raise Awareness of the correct use of Wikidata
2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

- Aware participants of the digital transformation and benefits of data nowadays and how to use it in Iraq.

  • Teach volunteers about WikiData, how it works, and its history during the past 10 years.
  • Prepare 500 - 1000 Wikidata statements for Iraqi articles that participants will work on to enrich Iraqi articles on Wikidata in order to practice Wikidata and Quick Statement tool.
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

- First 15 minutes: Welcome period

  • 75 minutes: participants will learn about Wikimedia, Wikidata, and how to use it.
  • 30 minutes: create accounts for the new users and learn about Wikidata tools.
  • 50 minutes: Lunch break.
  • 80 minutes: practice Wikidata by enriching Iraqi content.
  • 50 minutes: celebrating time, open discussion, and what's next.

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

Contentgender Gap: We will focus on gender equality in the workshop. Geography: the editing will focus to represent heritage sites in various cities in Iraq. Socio-economic status: we will be working with people with different levels of income, unemployed youth, and groups with low educational levels.

We will target people in the data field, those who are data-passionate, or the Wikipedians who want to learn about Wikidata. those people will be targeted through social media platforms, groups, and channels. We will work to preserve them by creating a social media Wikidata group to share information and stay connected to participate in upcoming events.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

Through the workshop, we will work on group activities and training methods that make the trainees satisfied with the workshop, in addition to dealing with them person to person to ensure that everyone learns from the information given in the workshop also, we will bring them closer to the Wikipedia community by showing them true stories of old Wikipedians.

The Iraq user group informed about the project idea through Wikipedia Edit-a-thon that was held in September in Baghdad. also, I informed the Arab Wikipedia community through the Arab Wikimedia projects group on Telegram. I plan to share the idea more widely with Wikipedia community through WikiArabia 2022 in the UAE on the 28th of October.

Working with partners who have experience in Wikipedia and Wikidata would be great and motivating for new users. I will invest my time in Wikiarabia conference to introduce my event idea to those who are working on Wikidata and invite them to share their experience.
