1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Since I introduced Wikimedia projects to the editors from the Karadua area, I realized that many of the editors are more focused on Wikipedia. I and Hamza DK, we have led events related to Wikipedia and Wiktionary which resulted in the formation of Wikimedia contributors from our area of Karadua. There are more editors of Wikimedia projects in the region especially from Funtua, Dandume, Kafur, Bakori, Danja, Malumfashi, Kankara, Musawa, Matazu, Faskari, Sabua. Many editors are focused on Wikipedia and Wiktionary. Individually, editors often asking me and Hamza DK many questions related to Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata, because of this I understand some problems with editors that I wanted to solve. The problems include; Lack of contribution to Wikimedia Commons & Wikidata Lack of experience in using files especially Wikidata items and photos to other Wikimedia Projects like Wikipedia I understand that most of the editors focus only on editing Wikipedia, so I want to bring change which will teach the editors how to contribute to Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. Encouraging Wikipedia editors in Karadua to contribute to Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons can help enhance the quality of Wikipedia articles, foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing, promote multilingualism, support open knowledge, and improve discoverability and accessibility.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

I will use the following main approaches or strategies to achieve the change of encouraging Wikipedia editors in Karadua to contribute to Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

  • Organize a physical training and workshop: Provide hands-on training to community members on how to use Commons and Wikidata effectively, including how to upload and tag photos, add descriptions and metadata, and collaborate with others. This approach will enable community members to gain practical skills that they can immediately apply to their own contributions.
  • Engage with the community: Involve the community in the planning and implementation of the training and workshop. This will help to build community ownership and investment in the project, and ensure that the training is relevant and tailored to the community's needs and interests.
  • Demonstrate the benefits: Demonstrate the benefits of contributing to Commons and Wikidata, such as improved visibility for the community, opportunities for collaboration and networking, and how it can help enhance the quality of Wikipedia articles. This can help to motivate community members to participate in the project and contribute their own knowledge and expertise.
  • Provide follow-up support: Provide ongoing support and guidance to community members after the training and workshop, including resources and tools for continued contributions. This can help to sustain community engagement and ensure that the knowledge and skills gained are put into practice over the long-term.
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
