Federal College of Horticulture Dadin Kowa, located in the Northern Nigeria, is a renowned research tertiary institution catering to a large student body and a dedicated staff of educators and professionals. This proposal aims to make Wikipedia and its related projects widely accepted within the college, foster active participation from students and lecturers in contributing to these platforms, and establish sustainable communities dedicated to Wikimedia initiatives.

To address the existing skepticism towards Wikipedia and its sister projects among lecturers and students, we recognize the prevalent belief that these platforms are susceptible to misinformation due to their open-editing nature. Consequently, many individuals do not consider Wikipedia as a credible source for referencing. In response, our team of experienced Wikimedia editors, alongside myself, will embark on a comprehensive online and offline campaign within the institution. This campaign will highlight the authenticity and reliability of Wikimedia projects, dispelling misconceptions and promoting their credibility.

We also aim to engage and motivate students and lecturers to actively contribute to Wikimedia projects. Many perceive these projects to be solely machine-driven, assuming that the information contained within them is unchangeable. To tackle this misconception, we will raise awareness about the research potential of Wikimedia projects. By demonstrating how these platforms can enhance their academic pursuits, we anticipate generating genuine interest and enthusiasm. Subsequently, we will provide training on how to effectively enhance and improve Wikimedia contents.

To ensure the long-term success of this endeavor, it is imperative to establish sustainable Wikimedia communities within the institution. After equipping the staff and students with the necessary skills, we will facilitate the creation of a dedicated platform for collaboration and support. This platform will serve as a forum for addressing challenges, sharing experiences, and collectively finding solutions related to contributing to Wikimedia projects. By fostering a sense of community and providing ongoing support, we can ensure the continued engagement and growth of the project within the institution.

Wikimedia Promotions at Federal College of Horticulture Dadin Kowa will encompass five distinct sessions in order to establish a Wikimedia community.

Awareness Trips - My team and I will undertake a sensitization and awareness campaign by touring the College premises, academic offices, faculties, lecture halls, and cafeterias. During these visits, we will elucidate the activities of Wikipedia and its Sister Projects. We will distribute informative fliers and handbills about Wikipedia and its sister projects. Additionally, we aim to recruit a minimum of thirty-five new editors who are eager to participate in Wikimedia projects, while also connecting with at least fifteen existing editors involved in Wikimedia projects.

Online onboarding session: This session aims to introduce the newly recruited Wikimedia editors from the awareness trip to the Wikimedia Foundation and its activities. It will involve creating user accounts and addressing minor editing issues. Existing editors will also benefit from this session, which will be conducted via Zoom. The session link will be publicly shared.

First Physical Workshop: This workshop will facilitate one-on-one interactions with the fifty recruited participants. During the session, practical training will be provided on how to enhance Wikipedia and its sister projects.

Second Physical Workshop: The second physical workshop will focus on problem-solving scenarios. Participants who have gained a grasp of editing will have the opportunity to explain the challenges they are facing, and my team and I will address those issues.

Second Online Session and Edit-a-thon: This training session is designed to further refine the editing skills of both new and existing editors. Following the training, there will be a three-week Edit-a-thon, during which outstanding participants and winners will receive certificates of excellence. Moreover, the Federal College of Horticulture Dadin Kowa Wikimedia Community will be established and maintained.
