Women's participation and empowerment play a crucial role in society, and it is essential to provide them with the necessary skills to amplify their voices. The Wikimedia ecosystem, including Wikipedia and its sister projects, is not exempt from this need. Currently, only 9% of wikimedians are women, which significantly influences the types of information documented on these platforms. To address this gender imbalance and enrich the content on Wikimedia, Women for Sustainability Africa proposes a project aimed at empowering a vibrant network of young women within our community. By equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute effectively, we strive to commemorate the Wiki Women In Red Anniversary and foster a more inclusive Wikimedia community.

The primary objective of this project is to build the capacity of the women network within our community, enabling them to become active contributors to the Wikimedia space and projects. By providing them with the necessary training and resources, we aim to empower these women to share their unique perspectives, expertise, and experiences through their contributions. This project aligns with the broader goals of promoting diversity, inclusivity, and gender equality within the Wikimedia community

We will organize a series of training workshops that focus on enhancing the participants' skills in researching, writing, and editing Wikipedia articles. These workshops will cover topics such as reliable sourcing, neutral point of view, and proper citation techniques. We will also provide guidance on identifying and addressing content gaps related to women in spot, history, achievements, and contributions.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Our Project is aimed at empowering women within the Women for sustainability network to actively contribute to the platform and address the gender gap on Africa women in sports representation. Through a two-day editing workshop, we will introduce participants to the Wikimedia space, provide training on various editing tools and techniques, and facilitate the creation and translation of articles focusing on women in sports in Africa. Additionally, we seek to collaborate with experienced Wikimedia trainers from existing communities to support and mentor our vibrant group of women. By providing continued support and engagement, including in-person hands-on training and the our women's WhatsApp group, we aim to foster skill acquisition and ensure ongoing community support.

We have partnerships with other women networks and we wish to provide their members with opportunities to participate.

Because the women are fairly new in the space we do not want to set very high targets for them. However we believe that these targets are reasonable enough for them to meat. We hope that each women will be able to create at least 2 new and 2 existing wikipedia articles and 3 Wikidata new items. There will also be a contest to challenge them to do further.
