- 1. Abstract or Short description of the project
Pakistan lacks knowledge and awareness about Wikimedia, its movement and open access initiatives. There is an acute need to create the awareness about Wikimedia movement and its open access initiatives in the country.
Since the main objective of Wikimedia movement is establishing knowledge equity among marginalized segments of the Society. This project will be an attempt to analyze the magnitude of awareness about Wikimedia in Pakistan (Karachi region) and creating awareness about Wikimedia movement in Pakistan (Karachi region) while launching Wikimedia in the country.

- A. Analyzing the magnitude of awareness about Wikimedia in Pakistan (Karachi region)
- B. Creating awareness about Wikimedia movement /Wikimedia projects in Pakistan (region: Karachi),
- C. Launching Wikimedia in Pakistan (region: Karachi) by focusing on essential infrastructure ecosystem of free knowledge in Education System of the country for establishing knowledge equity among marginalized segments of the Society.

During the first stage, we will be analyzing the magnitude of awareness about Wikimedia in Pakistan (Karachi region). For analyzing the awareness, the personal survey and focused group methods will be employed to gauge the magnitude of awareness about Wikimedia among the respondents.
After analyzing the magnitude of awareness, we will start creating the awareness about Wikimedia movement in the Karachi region by arranging the conferences/ workshops/seminars/ webinars/ regional events for marginalized communities through the universities/ colleges/ schools.
After creating the awareness in the education system and marginalized communities of the Pakistan (Karachi region), we will start Wikimedia media Pakistan chapter through launching Wikimedia in Pakistan by focusing on essential infrastructure of ecosystem of free knowledge in the education system of the region in accordance with Wikimedia strategic direction. .

- This research / project will act as the initiation point for educating about the 2030 Wikimedia Strategic Direction; by this we mean to address the guiding principles of Wikimedia Foundation and its projects.
This project/ research study will progress towards creating an impact by addressing the notion of knowledge equity (part of the 2030 Wikimedia Strategic Direction) through addressing the gaps of providing and utilizing free content and tools to the marginalized and also in generalized education sectors. This research will be crucial as it will impact the minds of the all stakeholders of the society for inculcating the use of free knowledge.
