Project Goal[edit]

- Add new content in the form of video, photo and text about makhuwa oral liturature (oral folklores told by the communities)
- Recruit new editors students from Universidade Rovuma, from the department of languages, communications nand Arts
- Engage existing editors who participated wikipedia project, https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/AfroCine_Contest_Mozambique_2021.
- Organize four photowalks in four communities to shoot folklores told by local members
- Engage 88 participants from university students to community leaders and storytellers.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. How many walks/tours will you organize and how many people on each walk?
- We will organize 4 photo and video walks in four communities with a group of 12 students Universidade Rovuma, from the department of languages, communications and Arts. In the community, we will engage 7 leaders to show us the community and in the evening we will records 12 stories folklores by the fireside, where all the community participate. This is due to the tradition that these stories are not supposed to be told during the day because they attract hunger if they are told under the sun.
2. What kind of content will the walks focus on? Why is this topic a priority?
- The walk will focus on both video and pictures. These stories are not available on wikidata neither are the pictures available. Emakhuwa is a Bantu language spoken by more 7 million people in Northern region of Mozambique. In this region education starts with telling of stories (ithale) to bring about analogies. Since 2019, I have been visiting communities to record those folklores with my students at University. I actually have more than 90 stories transcribed and on their ways to publication. But all of them are the form audio.
3. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

4. How will you let participants know about the photowalk? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- Participants will have a WhatsApp group where all communication will take place. Then, we will post photos on wikipedia facebook after they published on wiki commons.
5. What is the plan to ensure images will be used on Wikimedia projects?
- The images taken in these walks including the videos will be edidited and submetted to wikidata.
6. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- The participants are twofold. some are University students who already have the student smartphone. However, we are considering video maker who will shoot the pictures and film the folklores.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- In macua society, women have special place. For instance, there is a special leadership position which is occupied only by a woman called Apiyamwene, a woman responsible for dealing with ancestral aspects. So it feels Gender Identity, Linguistic / Language, and Digital Access. The main focus though is on Education, Culture, heritage or GLAM, Advocacy, Human Rights, Open Technology, Diversity.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more: The Total Number of active Participants from students to community leaders and storytellers is 88. However, one person can tll upto 3 stories.

Resources[edit]
What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- In terms of resources, the first category of resources are the participants, the university students doing Literature, Language, Arts and Anthropology at Universidade Rovuma. This group has shown in the previous contest to be the best choice given the potential to cope with technology and interested in the subject of Communities, language and stories. They are normally youth aged 20-30 and have no problem travelling to local communities. In addition to that, I have put forth a serious selection process to ensure that only good candidates are taken, those who can be excellent wikipedians now and forth. In the future, these students can train other wikipedians. The second resource is Igbo group in Quénia, especially Tochi Precious who has been sharing her experience with me in first ever fund https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/AfroCine_Contest_Mozambique_2021. This time I wish to meet all members in one of the meetings. I would appreciate to visit the Igbo Community in person as soon there are resources.

- I endorse this project because I would like to see more activities go on in Mozambique. The Mozambique community is a community from the AfroCuration event organized by the Moleskine Foundation. I taught them and still mentoring them. The aim is to activate a User Group and an active community in Mozambique which doesn't exist. They participated in the AfroCine Contest last year and this would be another good opportunity to further engage them. I'm also trying as much as possible to bring them up to speed.
