The purpose of the project is to award the winners in the Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the Philippines and to celebrate the 12th Bikol Wikipedia anniversary which coincides the Wikipedia Asian Month

Project Goal[edit]

  1. To engage new and existing Wikimedia Commons contributors of the community
  2. To use freely licensed and quality images of the built heritage of the Philippines among others, on Wikipedia articles
  3. To spread awareness about contributing media contents to Wikipedia and its sister projects through Wikipedia Asian Month and 12th Bikol Wikipedia Anniversary celebration

1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?
Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the Philippines contest happened last month. Joint awarding and celebration of WLM PH and 12th Bikol Wikipedia Anniversary which also coincides with the Wikipedia Asian Month, would be hitting 3 birds with one stone. The competition, celebration and offline activities are important because it will help raise awareness about Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia in the Philippines.

2. How will you let people know about the contest?

  1. Contest landing page on Commons and Wikipedia Asian Month 2019 on Bikol Wikipedia
  2. Social media promotion
  3. Central Notice (global banner)
  4. Community outreach activities
  5. Word of mouth

3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
We will have a jury composed of people from the Wikimedia community and professional photographers. Prizes will be in term of money. The jury will determine the winners of the local contest taking into consideration the following criteria:

  • Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.);
  • Originality and creativity;
  • Potential usefulness and overall value of the image (including its licensing) to the Wikimedia projects.

4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?
We will utilize those uploaded resources in Wikimedia projects by communicating to contributors through e-mail or talk page.
