Project Goal[edit]

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high-quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

Through this project, we expect:

  1. To boost WikiData outreach programmes in Nigeria
  2. To introduce participants to Wikidata query service (SPARQL).
  3. To conduct an event where local WikiData and wikipedia editors can network
  4. To celebrate Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday.
  5. To increase skills for existing editors
  6. To recruit new editors.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

We will organize a major workshop on Saturday 26th of October 2020 to celebrate Wikidata's birthday which is on 29th October at Lagos, Nigeria. Audience will be from both offline and online as the event will be held at a physical location with partipants not more than 25 & obeying all safety precautions and will also be stream live on Zoom and Facebook. The Invite will be open to the genral public but only a total of 25 will be selected for the physical event while 30(including a facilator) watch from Zoom and as many more can watch from facebook.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project? At the end of the project, we would have:

  • Increased the awareness of Wikidata in Nigeria more.
  • Created more items and added more statements to Nigeria content.
  • Introduced partipants to how SPARQL works.
  • Incresed the skills of existing editors.
  • Recruit new editors.
