Zend2020/WikiEmbrace
It is a project to grant access and inclusion to people living with disabilities PLWD in SW and North Central Nigeria. We are looking at embracing them into the Movement as a whole not limiting it to editing or edithatons but assisting in maximizing opportunities in the Wikimedia Movement.

Project Goal[edit]

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

  • Social Inclusion of new editors who are empowered with new skills.
  • PLWDs getting relevant skills in todays world is the springboard we aim to launch from this project. Haven undergone a research in the community, PLWD's are often conscripted with skills that will either leave then still disadvantaged ,poor and overlooked eg Soapmaking as against digital skills or skills that are transferable anywhere in the world. Not that instance mentioned is bad in itself but most of the circumstances they find themselves in often restricts movement which is one core thing needed in the production and sale of soap.
  • I also want to create a relationship with PLWDs Organizations in Nigeria.
  • Create articles of notable people PLWDS
  • Highlight and improve articles of PLWDS

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

I will start coordinating a meet up with participants where they will be introduced to the Wikimedia Movement.I and my partners who are experienced Wikimedians teach them how to edit starting Wikipedia, the rules that apply .Conduct a practical session with a mini edithathon improving articles of champions of PLWD and PLWD who have achieved notability. This occurs in Lagos and Ilorin concurrently

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience? https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria#Community_Notification

They know by the notification in the User group discussion page and social media channels. I will send out messages to those who hardly check those channels.I am targeting a specific group because i will like to bridge the gap of social inclusion of PLWD in Wikimedia Movement particularly in Nigeria the two venue are also strategic and pivotal in the thrust of reaching PLWD in the West and North.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

Introduced Wikimedia to new audience

Included a new set people into Movement and the User Group Opened up opportunities and prospects to PLWD beyond the scope of their physical space Instilled a sense of well being and dignity into new entrants of Movement. We will keep in touch with a WhatsApp group/Telegram and through our partner organisation

Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
