Grants talk:IEG/Plant Disease Articles

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Eligibility[edit]

Hi Andrew and Josh, thanks for submitting your proposal to broadly improve articles related to plant diseases. I think there are a lot of great ideas you've described here. I do want to draw your attention to a particular section of the eligibility for Individual Engagement Grant proposals:

Content-creation is not directly funded. Projects should foster conditions that encourage editing by volunteers (e.g. editor recruitment campaigns), not replace volunteer action by funding someone to edit articles, upload photos, etc.

Having spent some time perusing through article on scientific articles, I certainly agree there are issues of standardization, sourcing quality, and access to useful sources in this area. However, I do want to emphasize that grants cannot directly fund content creation, such as article editing and article standardization by grantees. However, the research/feedback collection, template building for standardization of disease profiles, and outreach to volunteers informing them of your proposals and findings are certainly eligible activities. One idea you could consider is to frame this proposal as a WikiProject or a general initiative, with the aims of providing editors with access to needed sources, feedback from growers and other experts in field, and building templates that volunteer editors can elect to implement. Let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything I can clarify here. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 22:59, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, one other thing-- I'd encourage both of you to create an account whenever it's convenient.  :) I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 23:05, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

April 12 Proposal Deadline: Reminder to change status to 'proposed'[edit]

The deadline for Individual Engagement Grant (IEG) submissions this round is April 12th, 2016. To submit your proposal, you must (1) complete the proposal entirely, filling in all empty fields, and (2) change the status from "draft" to "proposed." As soon as you’re ready, you should begin to invite any communities affected by your project to provide feedback on your proposal talkpage. If you have any questions about finishing up or would like to brainstorm with us about your proposal, we're hosting an IEG proposal help session tomorrow on April 12th from 16:00 - 17:00 UTC on Google Hangouts.

I'm also happy to set up an individual session tomorrow if needed.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 23:04, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Outside scope of IEG[edit]

Hello Andrew M. Papez and Joshua R. Johnson,

This submission is outside the scope of the IEG program (as noted above by I JethroBT (WMF)). If you would like to revise this proposal for future submission, please review our project eligibility guidelines.

Thanks for your interest in Wikimedia projects.
