Dear Satdeep @SGill (WMF):, Thanks for the queries, these are really important questions. My pleasure to reply them as below;

  • Q: If you have to focus on increasing awareness of one Wikipedia at this moment, which language Wikipedia would you choose?
Answer: Yes, I Use Wikipedia is a project which targets entier rural part of India, so ultimately it will lead to interpreting the local languages with Hindi & English. As per your question - initially, we will start with Hindi language and English will be part of its segment. For example,  project for 'Hindi Medium' schools will be taken in Hindi and for English Medium, both the languages will be offered to the students. In Universities & colleges, again English & Hindi will be covered up. My categorization is absolutely followed by the requirements of teachers, professors, lecturers & students i.e homework, project, thesis. So the languages they use to work out will be our target language(s) & it's Hindi & English.
  • Q: Have you identified any institution (school/university) where you would like to conduct this project as a pilot?
Answer: Yes, I have the complete geographic plan. Glad to share in brief, we will start to acquire govt., Private - Schools, Colleges, Institutions, and Universities. As a pilot project, we will target the nearest state of Delhi first i.e Gurgaon. We will cover all institutions in the rural part of Gurgaon fall within the 100km range from Delhi in our pilot project.
  • Q: When are you planning to implement this idea?
Answer: This is the most important question that I was waiting for. Thanks for such burning question. Our target audience is teachers, faculties, professors, and students, so the good time to start it in March after their examination. We can start it from 15th March until summer holidays i.e 15th May; then again 1st July onwards.  So we can implement from 15th March but should need 10 or more days prior to it for the preparation.

Next steps to develop your idea[edit]

Thanks for submitting your idea, Yes, I Use Wikipedia, for the New Readers Inspire Campaign. In order to help develop your idea further, we want to ask you to respond to the following questions here on the discussion page. Please refer to this document, which contains examples and resources to help you answer these questions:

1. Describe one or two versions of this idea that are smaller than your initial one.
  • As a pilot project, we will go with a handy survey to check out the current rate of Wikimedia awareness. For this, we should target 2 schools, 2 colleges & University(s). Before targeting students, we will evaluate the rate of awareness among teachers and faculties. Then they would be polished by our presentation. Once the presentation is over we will provide them tasks by completing which they will be certified and given with remarkable gifts. These tasks will be related to Wikimedia and build up the readership among students. After our 1st session with students, teachers/faculties will provide them these tasks in the form of general homework or as holiday homework. Tasks will be provided according to the interests of the students(which we will collect on the day one survey) and the form can be small or big. For example, if we are taking on the project for below standard - II, then simply we will motivate them on Pictures, Logos, & Scripts. For this, we may arrange drawing-competition where they have to create Wikipedia or entire Wikimedia family logos. For little higher class, the same pattern can be replicated with a 3d Model of Wiki logos using organic kind of stuff. This will lead them to use Wikimedia. Then the certification, award & gift part of the competition will motivate them more towards Wiki. The project will involve parents as well in the various way to know whether parents are/were aware of Wikimedia or their kids were made them aware?

As a part of the pilot project to organize in universities, we will make a survey on awareness among faculties & students. Then during the workshop, we will let them know how Wikimedia can help them not only in their projects but also in every aspect of their life. Sessions will be interactive & competitions will be productive. Motivating them by certificates, awards, gifts will be a major part to keep them engaged. Here we can expect quality conversion as well. Users will convert to contributors.

All projects will be equipped with Online/Digital media. A possible database of students will be prepared & that will keep rolling them through newsletters & engaging them more through social channels. --Raavimohantydelhi (talk) 20:25, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2. List three assumptions about your project and why you think those assumptions are true (see the document for some examples).
  • When the project will be conducted, we will approach the school/college/university authorities for permission with our plan of action. Permissions will be granted to us easily because of the educational theme of our project.

Teachers/professors are our targets as users & future contributors. They can easily understand the value of Wikimedia since they have been contributing knowledge in their regular professions. We are providing access to Wikimedia content which has been a part of their courseware or textbooks. This will help them & their students.

Teachers will appreciate us and get engaged because of the free knowledge base/open source. They will start students to get engaged with Wiki by putting it to their curriculum if they understand wiki first properly. All we have to make them happy with our project and convince them that Wikimedia contains all the answers for What? Why? How? Where? When? Who?

My Tagline- Wikimedia: What? Why? How? Where? When? Who?... just in one touch!!  

Branding is most important in our project. We will engage students for 7 days or even more days to complete their tasks. During this period, suitable Wikimedia branding materials like standees, backdrops, posters will be arranged in all noticeable areas. 4. How can you determine if your project is successful?
  • We will take the surveys to evaluate physical differences in awarenesses. Our competitions would be subject-oriented, in a simple way students would be given with task from Wikimedia and instructed how to use these pages to complete their tasks. Your Plan is sounds good and it will benefit the rural India but my questions are:

  • How will you cover poor rural pockets of India like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha?

Thanks for the queries.

Both the queries have same senes. As per the current status in UP, Bihar & Odisha, there may be very rare places which have been deprived of the digital facilities. Since Wiki is the hub of digital resources and our bottom line is to improve digital audience only, so we can't include such areas at this point of time.
