WMCA's eligibility[edit]

Please note that WMCA is currently not eligible to receive any grants from WMF because they still have not submitted a grant report for Start Up.

Discussion around this proposal should continue, but a final decision can't be made until WMCA is back in compliance.

WMCA is now eligible and this request is officially funded. Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk

Old version of this form[edit]

Hello, WMCA: It seems you've used an older version of this form. Please ensure you are using the up-to-date version of the grant submission for by following the instructions on the Grants:Index for creating your new submissions. In the mean time, I've moved this information to the new form for you in order to save you some time doing that. Now you just need to fill in the missing fields. They're currently marked with "PLACEHOLDER TEXT" so they should be easy to find. Please let us know if you have questions about updating the form. Regards, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 21:24, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Winifred, I have filled in the blanks. Alan.ca (talk) 15:48, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Alan. We appreciate that. Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 17:59, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Alan! Did you mean to add a completion date of 30 march 2014? The date you've listed currently is before your start date. Thanks, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 19:24, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Winifred, I fixed it now. Alan.ca (talk) 19:03, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for correcting that detail, Alan! Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 17:43, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Education Program[edit]

Thanks for submitting the proposal.

Winifred Olliff mentioned that you have used an older form, so please update the "PLACEHOLDER TEXT" sections.

I am interested a few things about the education program project. What is the present status of that project. In the scope section you have mentioned that you have to take several steps to continue the project. It would be great if you can inform the ongoing activities and steps taken (may you prepared some milestones or timeline) to make the project successful. --Nasir Khan Saikat (talk) 07:49, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nasir, I address your question below. The funding is not for a large program, it is covering travel for a limited number of appearances. Unfortunately, the large geography of Canada causes us to incur higher costs for presenters driving to rural communities. Our aim here is to cover these travel costs to bring the volunteer to the opportunity. We are trying to find more local volunteers through our contribution day outreach activities, but it has proven difficult to find qualified presenters. Some questions[edit]

Thanks for the submission. I'd like to know more about the current status of these activities and the deadline for their accomplishment as well. Can you also provide more information about similar projects that you carried on in the previous years with the goals that were achieved? Another thing that I'm interested in are your educational projects. How many lectures you plan to have during the one or two trips as noted in the application? You seem to have a large amount on travel and accommodation costs that should be compensated in scale. Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 09:58, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have expanded our section about the education program by linking to our Chapter activity reports that discusses the great work done by Simon over the years. Our other projects are also covered by this activity report, but you may also review the grant report from our Quebec 2012 programs grant.Alan.ca (talk) 15:48, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Web hosting[edit]

Why do you need so high cost web-hosting? USD $1,200 (12 months) /12 = 100 USD per month. For that price you can have quite powerful dedicated server in OVH or other provider (See: http://www.ovh.com/ca/en/dedicated-servers/ ) Do you host anything but your wiki, which need so expensive hosting? Polimerek (talk) 09:05, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We host wiki, CiviCRM and event pages. We definitely utilize the capacity of the server and the provider has an excellent reputation and SLA. We have had 0 service interruptions in the the last 2 years. Alan.ca (talk) 02:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GAC members who have read this request but had no comments[edit]

  1. Support, I will ask only to check the question of web hosting (it seems to expensive for me too). --Ilario (talk) 08:18, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Report past due[edit]

The report for this grant is now past due. Please provide us with an update on the status of the report and let us know if you have any questions about submitting it. Thank you, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 03:20, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Extension of grant period[edit]

We would like to request an extension of the grant until December 31 2014 with the following details: Infrastructure and Admin to support programs - USD $3,580

  • Web hosting services for Wikimedia Canada: USD $1,200 (12 months)
We would like to extend this by 6 months of web hosting. We have now moved our Wiki to a WMF hosted site and cancelled our hosting. The six months will cover the expense we incurred from April through September at a cost of $600.00.

These items have not been used, but we anticipate using some of these funds between now and the end of 2014.

  • Year-end tax filing & Financials by Accounting Firm: USD $965 (FY 2013)
  • Bookkeeping services by accounting firm: USD $1,415 (5 Months)

We expect these changes to remain within the original budget and not require additional funding. The additional time is also to allow a program manager who is engaged in Wiki Loves Monuments time to work with us to get his reporting components organized. Our apologies for this excessive delay and we appreciate the understanding we have been granted so far in getting this overdue report filed. Alan.ca (talk) 00:42, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan.ca. Sorry for the delayed response. I did not see this comment earlier. This extension is approved. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 22:24, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
