He has been giving lectures, editathons, mass media appearances, and WikiGaps on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia activities for many years. I have listened to some of them. His talks are very easy to understand. Many libraries, schools, and local governments would like to invite him, but they are hesitant to do so because of the high cost of transportation if they are far away. However, it is the people in such remote areas who need Wikipedia.--YShibata (talk) 11:41, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have participated in some events where the applicant was invited to lecture and supported the editing. The presentations were well-tailored to meet the purpose of each event as well as its audience. The explanation of Wikipedia was extensive, covering not only its role as an online encyclopedia and infrastructure of knowledge but also its impact on the individual level from the perspective of information literacy. The applicant facilitated during the event to bring active participation, not only by the audience but also by the collaborators who were often also still new to experiencing Wikipedia.-- JNakayama-WMF (talk) 01:54, 23 March 2023 (UTC) [reply]

Documenting Programme Officer and Applicant Discussions[edit]

PO received a draft application ahead of the submission and provided the following comments:

Context: This is the second application submitted by the applicant. Earlier application can be found here.

PO observations:

  • With the second application, we are able to observe an increase in confidence and capacity in putting in an application on Fluxx.
  • More contextual information in responses which provides reader with the background especially useful for people who may not be familiar with the community.

PO suggestions to improve the draft

  • Question 16: For main metrics 1,2 and 3, what does the target refer to? What are you trying to measure?
  • Question 17: Could you also add New content contributions per Wikimedia project (contents created or improved) to the table?
  • Question 17.1, Could you add the months that you plan to implement the activities. This will also serve as a timeline for your project which would be useful to capture in your application.
  • Could you give me access to this page that you indicated in question 18? https://eventmetrics.wmflabs.org/programs/820
  • Will there be publicity for your event on local media or social media, if yes, you can also add publicity of the event to question 17.1 and that you will share links of articles on local or social media that are written about the event.

Applicant's response

  • Proposed plans are fluid at this time. It would be more meaningful to share the results from the activities on content created, contribution and increase in awareness post session. On publicity, there will be a combination of advertising by organisers, facility hosting the activity, local media and potentially also local FM station in Fukuoka.

Note: PO will circle back with applicant to revisit these/ provide support during the project reporting phase. JChen (WMF) (talk) 05:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
