As the key founder of the Wikimedians of Northern Nigeria User Group, I am thrilled to endorse the Wikipedia Awareness initiative in Jos. We are currently in the process of obtaining our Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, which will further solidify our commitment to expanding the reach and impact of Wikimedia projects.

Our group's dedication to promoting free access to knowledge aligns perfectly with the goals of this proposal. The initiative to raise awareness and increase participation in Wikipedia within Jos is not only timely but also essential in fostering a more informed and engaged community.

I am confident that this project will significantly contribute to the growth of local content on Wikipedia, which is crucial for representing the diverse cultures and heritage of Nigeria. I wholeheartedly support this endeavor and eagerly anticipate the positive changes it will bring.

As a co-founder and secretary of the Wikimedians of Northern Nigeria User Group, I recognize the critical importance of diversity and inclusivity in our collective pursuit of knowledge sharing and dissemination. It is imperative that we actively engage with minorities languages speakers and underrepresented communities to ensure that their knowledge and perspectives are represented and celebrated on project like Wikipedia. By providing support, resources, and opportunities for participation, we can empower these communities to contribute their unique insights and experiences to the Wikimedia projects. Our User Group is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where individuals from all backgrounds feel welcome and valued. We believe that by actively reaching out to minorities languages users and underrepresented communities, we can enrich the content and cultural diversity of Wikimedia projects, ultimately fulfilling the movement's vision of making knowledge accessible to all. I wholeheartedly support initiatives aimed at increasing participation and representation among these groups, and I am dedicated to championing diversity and inclusion within the Wikimedia movement. --A Sulaiman Z (talk) 21:35, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Q1. Why the proposal is important for your community and why you think the strategies chosen will achieve the results that are expected?

  • This project is particularly important to the growth of Wikimedia activities especially in parts of Northern Nigeria (Jos); where there are lots of barriers in access to digital skills and knowledge gap as well as low experience on Wikipedia (it's policies) and it's Sister Projects.

Q2.Could you highlight any aspects that you think are particularly well developed: for instance, the strategies and activities proposed, the levels of community engagement, outreach to underrepresented groups, addressing knowledge gaps, partnerships, the overall budget and learning and evaluation section of the proposal, etc?

  • This group consist of dedicated, experienced editors with various experiences in both governance, contributing to Wikimedia, mentorships and guidance as well as administrative roles both on-wiki and off wiki who will work hand-in-hand in making the project a success.
  • The project will focus on creating Wikipedia awareness in an area with little or low contributions and Wikipedia know-how. It will bridge about Wikipedia knowledge gap and bring about growth in Wikimedia activities in the region.

Q3.Could you highlight if the proposal focuses on any interesting research, learning or innovation, etc. Also if it builds on learning from past proposals developed by the individual or organization, or other Wikimedia communities?

  • Through this project, will be determined the extent of Wikipedia activities in the region, participation in Wikipedia by people in the region, the need for Wikipedia awareness and usage in the region, and Wikipedia appreciation in the region among others.

  • This proposal has clear objectives and simple strategies to achieve the outlined objectives effectively. It will add new language wiki(s) to Wikipedia and add in the sum of contributors to this free Encyclopedia.

As a dedicated Wikimedian from Jos, I am thrilled to endorse this proposal. Living in a city where no Wikimedia event has ever taken place, I understand the critical need for initiatives that can bridge the gap between global knowledge platforms and local communities.

The absence of Wikimedia events in Jos and the entirety of Plateau State has been a significant barrier to our participation in the broader Wikimedia movement. This project promises to break new ground by bringing the first-ever Wikimedia event to our region, fostering a community of knowledge seekers and contributors.

I am particularly excited about the prospect of learning more about Wikimedia through this project. It offers a unique opportunity to not only enhance my understanding but also to contribute to the inclusion of our local language on Wikimedia platforms. This is a step towards preserving our linguistic heritage and sharing it with the world.

I wholeheartedly support this proposal and eagerly anticipate its positive impact on our community. I believe it will empower us to tell our stories, share our knowledge, and enrich the global tapestry of information that Wikimedia embodies.
