From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

APG approved in the amount of 118,085 USD[edit]

Congratulations! Your grant is approved in the amount of 118,085 USD, with a grant term starting 1 January 2021 and ending 31 December 2021.

Wikimedia Ukraine seeks to pursue its strategic plan through programs that will identify and address content gaps, encourage active volunteers by providing them with practical kinds of support, and engage the public on Wikimedia projects and the importance of Wikimedia Ukraine’s work. . We appreciate your work in gathering feedback and reflecting on where improvement is needed, such as with the Wikipedia Education Programme.We appreciate the community support plan proposed to ensure inclusion of community through multiple access points both on- and off-wiki.

In 2021, Wikimedia Ukraine will focus on four areas this year: Content Enrichment, Increasing Participation, Community Support and Development, Awareness about Wikimedia, and Free Knowledge. Their program for increasing participation focuses on the equity, diversity, and inclusion factors in communities. This is one area where we request more clarity: What underrepresented communities or aspects of diversity will Wikimedia Ukraine be focused upon?

Wikimedia Ukraine has developed thoughtful approaches to community retention and volunteer capacity building needs through training sessions, scholarships, community appreciation initiatives, and newsletters for the community. Their storytelling and advocacy efforts are a good practice to engage the community while drawing the public’s attention to specific issues important for the development of free knowledge, such as freedom of panorama advocacy.

We support Wikimedia Ukraine’s requests for increasing staff hours for Communications Manager from 0.75 FTE to 1.0 FTE to improve communication network and organization’s communication strategy. Additionally, we also support the addition of the new role of a GLAM & Wikipedia Education contractor to support and strengthen the organization’s partnerships and capacity building.

We support full funding of Wikimedia Ukraine’s request in consideration of their past record of gradual organizational growth and productive programmatic outcomes. Overall, the proposal planned by Wikimedia Ukraine is sound and outlines clear verticals in their programmatic and strategic area. We look forward to working with you in 2021.

@I JethroBT (WMF): thanks so much to you and to other team members for the feedback and for approving our grant application! We are excited to continue our activity in 2021 and grateful for your support. Regarding your question on the aspects of diversity — in our current activity, we are focusing on engaging more women as a traditionally underrepresented group both in Ukraine and worldwide, as well as more Crimean Tatars as a Ukrainian ethnic minority. We expect to continue doing so. We have several more areas of diversity we can potentially pursue work on (such as certain aspects of geographic diversity), but that's something we are actively evaluating at the moment. Should we clarify this in the application, or will an explanation here suffice? -AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 22:49, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@AntonProtsiuk (WMUA): Thanks for this clarification, Anton. No, additional changes will not be needed on your application, and the context provided here is sufficient. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 22:52, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for deadline extension for the final report[edit]

Hi @I JethroBT (WMF):!

We would like to ask for reporting deadline extension from January 30th to February 10th.

Wikimedia Ukraine's resources are overstretched in January. In addition to usual work,

  • it's the month of two Wikipedia birthdays (global Wikipedia birthday on January 15th, Ukrainian Wikipedia birthday on January 30th), which requires a lot of time commitment from the whole team for media & communications activities, organizing our traditional pan-Ukrainian Wikimarathon, and other work;
  • we also have a lot of work finalizing results of some of the major content campaings Wikimedia Ukraine held last year, such as the Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest.

Although we can complete the report by January 30th, it would be really helpful for us if the deadline could be extended by February 10th.

Thanks! AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 11:49, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@AntonProtsiuk (WMUA): Approved for 10th February! Thanks for the request, and good luck with the campaigns this month. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:43, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
