Objective
  • Theme of the improve-a-thon is Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence.

Indic Wiki Improve-a-thon 2022 will be a 20-day long edit-a-thon in which anyone can participate from any local/Indian language. The edit-a-thon will be on a specific theme with two lists. The first list will be from A2K and the second list can be created by Wikimedians, they will pick their own stub articles list from their Wiki the decided on them. In this list, it can be, influential - persons, literature, films, music, arts etc.

The Indian communities, affiliates and individuals can participate according to their availability and contribute enthusiastically. The idea of the improve-a-thon is to improve and develop content on the Indic/Indian Wikis.

Method[edit]

  • This will be an online event. However, any community that wants to conduct an on-ground small event for within these 15 days, can conduct it.
  • If a community is planning to do something, the community needs to create their own local page under the Improve-a-thon.

Scope[edit]

For participating in this edit-a-thon, you can choose/edit any Wikipedia and make some improvements, just like in previous edit-a-thons. These are some contributions you can make:

  • Improve a Wikipedia article about the particular theme from the local Wikipedia stub articles list or any random stub article. (or you can copyedit, add reliable references, fix typos, add relevant etc.)
  • Find a book about Independence, directly or indirectly, on your language Wikisource and work on that.
  • Add an image or more than one image to the article from Wikimedia Commons or the local Wiki.
  • Upload or improve images about the same topic on Wikimedia Commons. Also, add image details such as improving descriptions, writing image descriptions in your native languages, adding/improving structured data etc.
  • Wikimedians can edit labels, items and properties on the Wikidata.
  • This edit-a-thon is not limited to any specific Wikimedia project. You can select any Wikimedia project (like; Wikibooks, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia, Wikisource etc.) of your interest to contribute about languages. The participant can improve the content on any Wikimedia Project.

Note: All edits must follow a project's and the community's policies and guidelines. Please consider making a high-quality contribution. You can work on more than one project at the same time.

This is an effort to engage Indian Wikimedians on the same platform and it is not a competition, but more like work on the improvement and quality of the content. We do not have any target of NN number of articles to be created or expanded, or BB bytes to be added.

Indic Wiki Improve-a-thon 2022 was a 20-day-long improve-a-thon event. It started as an online activity, so, communities could participate together and create or develop content in their own languages. It started on 15 December 2022 and ended on 5 January 2023. The event was not restricted to any particular project and the event was followed by a theme "Azadi ka Mahotsav". Many individuals and language communities participated in the event. A total of 21 participants showed their interest to participate in this event and three language communities, Odia Wikimedians User Group, Wikimedians of Kerala, Wikimedians of Santali Language User Group, signed up to contribute together. A total of 7 languages participated in the event: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, and Santali. Mainly two projects, Wikipedia & Wikidata, were edited during the event,

Meenakshi nandhini created 31 articles on Malayalam Wiki. Snehrashmi who is a part of the Gujurati Community, created 27 articles, Punjabi Wikimedian Simranjeet Sidhu created 20 articles on the local Wiki, Ssgapu22 created 1 article on Odia Wiki, Tamanpreet Kaur created one article on Punjabi Wikipedia and JyotiPN created an article on Assamese Wikipedia. Also Rocky 734 edited two articles on Santali Wikipedia. Gujurati Wikimedian Brihaspati created one article on Gujurati Wikipedia. Salil Kumar Mukherjee is from the Bengali language community, he created 3 articles on Bengali Wikipedia and he edited 40 items on Wikidata during the event.

Under this event, Santali communities organised a one-day in-person event. The event was organised on 01 January 2023 from 10.00AM-5.00 PM and the venue of event was Baba Tilka Library, Patra Mahulbani, Bahalda, Mayurbhanj. It was a well planned event and 12 participants participated Ramjit Tudu, ᱥᱟᱹᱜᱩᱱ ᱗, Joy sagar Murmu, Rocky 734, R Ashwani Banjan Murmu, Bijendra Hansda Purudhul, Fagu Baskey, Shibu Murmu, Premchand murmu thakur, Durga Soren, User:Rimil Shyam Sundar Besra, User:Surendra Hemram.
