submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

A committee member provided the following comment:

Eligible language. You are encouraged to contribute on incubator:Wb/ceb. --Millosh (talk) 16:51, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Language code ceb (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Cebuano Language name in English
Language name Bisayâ Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q33239 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality LTR Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.
Project name "Wikibooks" in your language
Project namespace usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace "Wikibooks talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads no Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Continent/City "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
submit Phabricator task (includes everything automatically, except additional namespaces/settings)

This was originally proposed 9 years ago, but was rendered invalid with the new project policy. I feel that the Cebuano Wikipedia's size deserves a Wikibooks in this language.--RIP iPad 2 (talk) 14:33, 14 August 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

People are very welcome to contribute on Incubator at incubator:Wb/ceb. When there is enough activity there, a new wiki can be created. --MF-W 01:38, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  1. Strong support Strong support -- I support the creation of this project since the existing Cebuano Wikipedia is in the process of improvement and this has been verified to be eligible.--08:21, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
  2. Symbol support vote.svg Support Cebuano has a great Wikipedia and let's see how can do it's job in Wikibooks, a project with the least number of cross-wiki links. --Doostdar (talk) 08:42, 17 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  3. Symbol support vote.svg Support There is an active user base in the Cebuano Wikipedia so this has the potential to succeed as well --Harvzs (talk) 19:42, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  1. Oppose --Pitpisit (talk) 09:07, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  2. Oppose. Most articles in ceb.wikipedia are bot-generated. The situation on is similiar to the situation with the Volapuk wiki 10 years ago: a single constructive contributor who is using a script to artificially inflate the {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}. The only difference is that, on, a cross-wiki vandal occasionally comes by to stir up drama. I see no reason why a Cebuano Wikibooks should exist. KATMAKROFAN (talk) 00:00, 21 September 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Considering that you vandalized the Cebuano Wikipedia and used your own vandalism as a self-serving reason to justify your request to shut down the Wikipedia, I would submit that your reasons are not sufficient to oppose this request. --Harvzs (talk) 19:44, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
