New Regional Committees for Grants

[edit]

Check the new Regional Committees for Grants. They are related to the implementation of the Movement Strategy priority Funding for Underrepresented Communities. They also honor the priority of Hubs and stronger regional communities. Consider joining your region's committee! Qgil-WMF (talk) 08:07, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposal for a Movement Strategy Forum

[edit]

Hello everyone,

This is an invitation to all Movement Strategy participants to try out a new space for truly multilingual collaboration:  https://forum.movement-strategy.org/

Please join the Movement Strategy Forum and say "hi" to the community here.

We are starting a community review period of two months. If the community feedback is positive, the Forum will launch in August 2022 before Wikimania. If not, we will follow the feedback received, changing the proposal or closing it.

Looking forward to your first impressions!

Very important. Also comes w/ caveats for small communities

[edit]

Great to see this articulated; significantly more funding should go to these communities. The first projects in a region, the first major increase in funding to a region, and the first staff in a region (temporary or otherwise) have outsized impact on community identity, development, and dynamics, and deserve extra attention.

It is worth a caveat that significant increases in funding to a community are the mechanism for changing local power dynamics. We've seen how this can fail dramatically (with CIS and others), and should help regions ramp up work + choose templates for growth that bring everyone along and expand community capacity rather than creating a permanent source of conflict. And we have enough experience with different approaches to help growing communities avoid some pitfalls.

This has been discussed elsewhere but not gathered in one place; this Initiative page seems like as good a place as any. –SJ talk  17:36, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Report about the recommendation "Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement"

[edit]

Hi, we have prepared a report summarizing strategic data and activities related to the recommendation Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement, focusing on projects led by the Wikimedia Foundation. It includes a section about this initiative. We encourage others to add work they have done or are aware of. This mapping is an invitation to celebrate strategic achievements and focus on areas needing attention and collaboration to succeed. Qgil-WMF (talk) 10:05, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
