Translation[edit]

Hi Pols12, could you check my preparation and mark the page for translation? Thank you.--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 20:45, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is something wrong with the links--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 21:07, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done Here the applied tweaks:
  • Moved language bar to the top.
  • Integrated links which should not change as tvars inside translate tag (in some languages, they may be at other places).
  • Made proper names translatable (even if they should not be translated, they may be transliterated for all languages which do not use latin script).
  • If you split a paragraph in several units, you should ensure each unit do not contain any new line character (else, units containing a new line would appear as a bloc in translation pages while they are still not translated).
  • Tvar names need to be unique only at unit scale: each unit may contain a tvar with the name "1", they will be all different.
  • If you add translate tag inside a template call, you should ensure the parameter is a named parameter. If there is no name, you should add 1= for the first parameter, etc. (else this will break the template in translatin pages while the unit are still not translated).
  • Finally, we should avoid to encourage editors to edit a translatable page for discussion or signing because each update would need a translation admin to mark it. As an alternative, discussion and signing should happen on another page which may be transcluded in translatable page.

Pols12 thanks. I understood almost everything at first, but I still need to investigate the itens 2 and 6 in more detail. I thought I could train a bit more under your supervision on this page Hubs, what do you think?--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 17:48, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, feel free to prepare pages for translation, because Meta-Wiki is a wiki, so w:WP:Be bold may apply.
For item #2 (and other ones, actually), we should just try to find a balance between excluding content from translate tag and keeping it. The more we minimize translation units, the more they are rapid to translate. But harder to customize too. German has another word place organization, Arab is right-to-left and Thai has no space nor punctuation segmentation. I think a unit who could be easily translated in these three languages could be then translated in all languages without any issue. -- Pols12 (talk) 17:23, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
