Using old template, because the new version assumes it was created on a Friday[edit]

@Quiddity (WMF): What does new template mean and how does it assume Friday creation? No template should depend on the Tech News issue’s creation date, so I would consider it as a bug. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 19:23, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Tacsipacsi and Johan (WMF): Good question, and I'd meant to ping Johan about this, so thanks for the reminder.
Basically, on Monday, when I noticed that next edition hadn't yet been created, I clicked the "create next" link, and then clicked "preview", it showed the "new version of MediaWiki" dates as being "April 13, 14, 15" (should be 10, 11, 12), and the same problem for the dates of the 2 meetings.
I cannot reproduce the problem exactly like that now, but if I click "create next" in this week's edition (thus creating week 16) it showed "April 10, 4, 5" the first time. Now again I cannot reproduce, and it is showing "April 17, 18, 19" (correct dates). I'm baffled!
I didn't have time yesterday to investigate how your changes to Tech/News/init worked (that level of template/parser function complexity, is quite a bit beyond my comfort level), hence I just copied the source from the previous revision to initialize this week's empty edition. Hope that helps either diagnose the bug, or provide warning to Johan for checking dates in the future, and keeping us updated. :) Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:50, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I tried changing Tech/News/2018/16 to {{subst::Tech/News/init}} (it should work exactly the same way as creating this page a week ago), and it seems to be OK. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 18:03, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Log thanks[edit]

Hi. You can now thank for many more actions Are all the new actions in the log only? If they are, why it has not been mentioned explicitly. If they are not, what else? IKhitron (talk) 16:39, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Johan? IKhitron (talk) 22:12, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Johan (WMF) and IKhitron: The ping works only if you place your signature in the edit where you correctly mention someone. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 04:25, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I know. Of course, I signed again. IKhitron (talk) 08:30, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
IKhitron: My guess was that "log action" didn't say the average, non-technical Wikimedian that much. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 09:32, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe, Johan, but even so, it's better than nothing. IKhitron (talk) 09:59, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The thing I'm worried about is that it's not just something that they won't understand, but that will be actively misleading. "Log action" doesn't sound like an action that is logged and you can see by accessing the logs – it sounds like an action where the main point is to change the logs somehow. That's what I was attempting to avoid. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 17:53, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see this, but nevermind, you could just provide details. IKhitron (talk) 22:13, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, you haven’t. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:56, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, yes. See the revision timestamp. IKhitron (talk) 22:13, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
