Is the newsletter translatable like Tech news or it would be English only? --Base (talk) 16:42, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

The issue for May wasn't, but we're considering that for future ones. It should also be pointed out that recipients of those would be less than a dozen right now, but there shouldn't be problems in making the next issues fully translatable. --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:45, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Base, please see VisualEditor/Newsletter/2014/October: I just sent an invite to translate that issue. Thanks for any help with this, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 21:49, 8 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Signup without publicly sharing email address

[edit]

Is it possible to signup for the newsletter without publicly sharing your email address? --PhotographerTom (talk) 15:28, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Definitely. The format you see in the main signup page is not related to email addresses; those are the sites you want the newsletter to be delivered at :) I can even do it for you if you tell what your home wiki is. Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:31, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
PhotographerTom, actually, you can see en:Wikipedia:VisualEditor#Newsletter :) --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:38, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! --PhotographerTom (talk) 19:34, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

How do I unsubscribe?

[edit]

A robot dropped "Editing News #1—July 2019" onto my talk page. I don't use the VisualEditor any more but also don't see how to unsubscribe. This article has "You can unsubscribe at any time by removing your name from this list" but where is the list?

Related to this is that the section dropped onto my talk page was huge. There was so much clutter that I immediately deleted the newsletter. In the future, I believe people will be happier if you drop a one paragraph summary on talk pages with a link to the newsletter page. Marc Kupper (talk) 21:55, 15 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Marc Kupper: Removed -- Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 08:30, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@ZI Jony: Apparently the removal either did not work or I was re-added. Please see this edit which dropped Editing News #2 onto my user talk page on Wikipedia.
The top of Editing News #2 has "... Subscription list for this multilingual newsletter" which links to this page. This article says "You can unsubscribe at any time by removing your name from this list." My user name is not listed and was not listed back in July. How do people unsubscribe from this newsletter?
My previous criticism about the length of what you are dropping onto people's talk pages still applies. Editing News #2 that was dropped onto user talk pages is far too long. I suspect few people want a wall of text added to their talk page. Marc Kupper (talk) 18:23, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Your name was still on the list of English Wikipedia users, I removed it now. Thanks for the feedback also on behalf of User:Whatamidoing (WMF). --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 08:16, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Elitre. I was not online. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 11:21, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry. I forgot to change the link for the English Wikipedia copy. There's a local list for the English Wikipedia (only), because this newsletter originally started there back in 2013, and I never merged the lists together.
By the way, the correct link is always (automatically) included at the very end of the message, for any message sent using Special:MassMessage. In this case, it says "Message sent by User:Whatamidoing (WMF)@enwiki using the list at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Newsletter&oldid=920787225" Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:55, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
