Thoughts[edit]

Hello, I missed the survey time but I will add some thoughts. Here are my Community Wishlist Survey entries: 1, 2. They received dozens of votes, though not sufficiently high enough for the team to act on. The entry documents all of the icon problems comprehensively, as well as some proposed solutions. I also missed the survey. I want to point out an existing bug around points which crosses 180th meridian still exists. You can see that illustrated in voy:Taveuni#See. It wraps around prime meridian instead of 180th meridian. There are several places on earth (e.g. Antarctica) which will present the same issue in this extension. It will be great to have this fixed. Thanks Johanna. Updating Maki will fix a small portion of Wikimedia's icon needs - I cannot stress enough that we need more icons and better icons for some. Flexibility with icon colors and marker shapes is important for legibility as well. Ɱ (talk) 17:58, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Google Maps is a good tool to compare to - we could use aquarium and casino icons like they have, in addition to about 50 other icons critical to Wikipedia that are missing icons both here and with the latest Maki. Ɱ (talk) 18:00, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also! Take a look at en:Wikipedia:Mapframe maps in infoboxes. Evad37 and I have been working to allow mapframe maps to work in infoboxes on the English Wikipedia, and I made the right-hand column, where I indicated what the ideal icon would be for each marker, and whether it exists or not.
