Talk:WMDE Technical Wishes/Geoinformation/Maki icons

A few nuances[edit]

I am very grateful for the changes, as I have been advocating for additional and changed icons for years now. I have a few issues, and I'm sure more will come up as time progresses...

  • Religious icons were added, thankfully, though Shintoism (pop ~3m) is now covered, while Hinduism (pop. ~1bn) isn't?
  • Icon swaps have needed tedious manual adjustment. "Building" previously showed a house, and now shows an office building, while "commercial" showed an office building, and now shows more of a storefront/convenience store.
  • I updated en:Wikipedia:Mapframe maps in infoboxes. Many problems are now fixed, but this still clearly shows many obvious use cases for icons that don't currently exist (e.g. ancient site, observatory, cave, distillery, winery...)

Hi @, thanks a lot for your suggestions. I realized that I forwarded them to our team a while ago, but didn't let know you about that. My apologies. We are currently reviewing which one of the many possible improvements to Kartographer we can implement in the remaining time in this focus area, so this might be part of our work or not. You can always see an overview of our plans and projects on the main page "WMDE Technical Wishes/Geoinformation". -- Best, Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 09:55, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
