Talk:Wikicite/e-scholarship/BamLifa2

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

@BamLifa: Thank you for this proposal. I have a few clarification questions:

  • Can you confirm that in this proposal you are asking for an scholarship equivalent of 1 person for 4 days work, correct?
  • Can you please link to the two projects you plan to translate into French, and the localization process information for each of them. For example, can you include in the proposal links to where your translated content would be shared for others to see? How and where will other people provide feedback/suggestions to your work? And how would your work be adopted officially into the project?
    • To be precise this is the homepage of citation.js and this is the homepage of scholia. Neither of them currently have a 'select your language' option on those websites. Are you in contact with the developers of those websites for them to include this information if you provide it?
  • Have you made translations of documentation before? if so, can you link to an example in the 'your qualifications' section of the proposal.

Thank you, LWyatt (WMF) (talk) 16:13, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@LWyatt (WMF):
  • I confirm it.
  • My translation work will be available on Wikidata. The discussion page is there for feedback and suggestions.
    • I'm not sure I understand you well. My proposal is not for UI translation, but the documentation for french developers and/or users. You can find the links in my proposal.
  • Yes, a lot. I'll point to some of them.--BamLifa (talk) 10:55, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Interaction with Mrbobax?[edit]

There is a similar proposal at Wikicite/e-scholarship/Mrbobax. Have you had any interaction with them? What are your plans for interaction? -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 19:59, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment.

I'm not aware of Mrbobax project. Because you have mentioned it here, I went to read it. I've noticed that they are two different internalization projects. As I told LWyatt (WMF) (talk), my project does not involve UI translation but docs. This is what I'll be translating: scholia and citation.js. This is what I'm not translating: scholia and citation.js. Hope that you'll get a better sense of my project. Thank you. --BamLifa (talk) 11:11, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete translations[edit]

Thanks, BamLifa, for starting documentation pages in French for Scholia as well as citation.js, but both translations are incomplete — significant portions on the supposedly French pages remain in English. Please check. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 13:02, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Mietchen, I've checked and fixed for citationjs. I'll be doing so for Scholia as well. Let's me know if you find any issue.--BamLifa (talk) 08:51, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
BamLifa Are you going to be inserting the <translate></translate> templates on the Wikidata:Scholia page, so you can make it a multilingual page, and then integrating all the work text here into that? LWyatt (WMF) (talk) 15:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
LWyatt (WMF) I didn't think of it. Do you think we can add it?--BamLifa (talk) 17:50, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
BamLifa yes please. It is the best practice for making translations of a Wikimedia page. Are you familiar with the process? LWyatt (WMF) (talk) 18:07, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
LWyatt (WMF) no, sorry. I'll try to learn. --BamLifa (talk) 05:59, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
BamLifa I too am learning how to use the system properly. I am asking a colleague to help me set up the Wikidata:Scholia page to be a multilingual page (also so I can learn) and then it will be to create the French page. I will contact you again when the Scholia page is prepared. By the way, the documentation for the translation system - in french - is here: mw:Help:Extension:Translate/fr. LWyatt (WMF) (talk) 13:25, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dear BamLifa, as you can now see on the Wikidata:Scholia page, there is a box at the top that says "translate this page". Whith the help of User:Guillaume (WMF) I have now learned how to do this! When you click that link, and select 'Francais' you can then begin to insert translations that you have already written to those specific segments of the page. This is a much more sustainable way to create a multi-lingual page rather than having a completely separate page for each language. Please upload your work via that system. Someone else who is a 'translation admin' will need to review and approve your work when you save it. And, please notify me when you are complete - because that is the remaining activity required for your WikiCite grant to be 'complete'. Sincerely, LWyatt (WMF) (talk) 17:06, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I note that the French translation is now complete on Wikdiata. See: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Scholia/fr. LWyatt (WMF) (talk) 16:36, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
