Talk:Wikipedia Asian Month/QA

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Clarification needed[edit]

I request the organizers for clarification by appropriate question answer:

(1)Suppose a user creates 5 pages on EN-WP and post its translation into other WP like Urdu [1], and suppose further her/his articles are considered eligible for post card. Will s/he entitle to have two post cards?
(2)Wikipedians who contribute the most articles on each Wikipedia will also be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors. This needs further clarification by virtue of words “Each Wikipedia”

Thanks. Nannadeem (talk) 20:58, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Nannadeem:
  1. This is what we want to encourage. If you speak other languages, try to also contribute to other communities to diversify the content, especially for small communities.
  2. Does current version make sense?

--AddisWang (talk) 00:18, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@AddisWang: Thanks. Now clear. One more bothering: Is there limitation to numbers of "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors" in this WAM? If not I suppose more than half the total participants who contribute 5 article might be Ambassadors having credential from WAM. Nannadeem (talk) 14:41, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Nannadeem:It suppose to be one on each Wiki, let me think how could solve this problem--AddisWang (talk) 18:42, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Nannadeem:I add one more rule, how do you feel about it?--AddisWang (talk) 20:53, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang:Thanks very well for local versions. You may note that most of the participants opting to contribute in English version. So it is my humble suggestion/proposal to consider more seats of Asian Ambassadors for English Version (just a submission). Nannadeem (talk) 15:47, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Jogi don:yes--AddisWang (talk) 14:51, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: then After tranlsating 5 or more than 5 articles from English Wikipedia or Urdu Wikipedia for Sindhi Wikipedia ,then can I avail the Ambassador title or any other rewad?...--Jogi don (talk) 08:15, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Articles[edit]

Question no. 2 of Postcards section[edit]

In this section, answer states that five articles are needed to fulfill the requirement; however only 4 articles requirement is specified in the main page. Is there any mismatch between these two statements.nShrestha (talk) 15:25, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nirjal stha: That's outdated information, changed it right now. Will be Four articles.--AddisWang (talk) 07:07, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This specific article[edit]

I was wondering if the article on Taga Dzong can still be made. It has a redlink here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_Bhutan But this seems to be it's article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daga,_Bhutan Anyhelp would be appreciated Horsegeek (talk) 23:46, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek[reply]

@Horsegeek: If they are same thing then the only thing can be made is Redirect.--AddisWang (talk) 02:40, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification on the Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors section[edit]

Can someone tell me what this means: 'You will have the title on each language version of Wikipedia where you achieve most number of articles, while the second person on the Wikipedia you contribute less articles will also be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors"'. Is the 15 articles = 2 post-cards valid everywhere? Thanks! --ArgonSim (talk) 11:57, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ArgonSim: This is the question : If I achieve the most number of articles in more than one Wikipedia, do I get multiple titles of the "Ambassador"?
For example, I contributed most articles on both Chinese and English Wikipedia, 25 on English and 32 on Chinese. I will become Wikipedia Asian Ambassador on both Wikipedia, but the person next to me on English Wikipedia (on the Wikipedia you contribute less articles)will also be granted Wikipedia Asian Ambassador.--AddisWang (talk) 13:27, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
AddisWang, I'm sorry for bothering you once again, but I really need to have this confirmed. Is the 15 articles = 2 postcards valid for every Wikipedia, including the Portuguese?
I've translated the Article Submission Tool to Portuguese, but the language doesn't seem to be available as of now. Who can I speak with in order to have it updated?
I don't know if you've seem it on my discussion page, but the logo on the banner was redirecting people to the en-wiki page instead of the pt-wiki one. Do you know if this has been fixed? Thank you so much! --ArgonSim (talk) 13:59, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ArgonSim: Oh sorry did not see the last question. yes, 15 articles = 2 postcards valid everywhere. Tool Interface can be translated at here. I can't see the message but if you use any type of mention template I will get notification. Is the banner in English or Portuguese?--AddisWang (talk) 14:17, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I actually able to see Banner in pt and direct to pt-wiki--AddisWang (talk) 14:19, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: Sorry, the {{U}} template also mentions the user on pt-wiki, and I thought it'd do the same thing here as well.
The banner is partially translated (Novembro é o Wikipedia Asian Month. Participe.) I updated the text so Wikipedia Asian Month would be shown as Mês Asiático da Wikipédia, as can be seen here and here, but it still shows as Wikipedia Asian Month. If you could update both the pt and pt-br banners, please. --ArgonSim (talk) 14:26, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Article[edit]

I have been active on Wikipedia doing various edits. However, this project is first of its kind. Help me with this - Do I have to create an article first and later add it to the project?

@Jn045: Yes. Do you have problem with creating articles?--AddisWang (talk) 14:42, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AddisWang: Correct me with the following if I am wrong - I have to create an article first and later submit it to the project team, am I right?

@Jn045: Yes--AddisWang (talk) 00:53, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AddisWang: Thanks!

About the title "Wikipedia Asian Ambassador"[edit]

@AddisWang:, I have a concrete question: in the wikipedia in vietnamese language, the one created the most articles, exactly 242 articles only about biography of 242 catholic priests. Is it the right thing to give him the title Wikipedia Asian Ambassador or is it enough to give him a different title, for example, the ambassador of the Asian priests? I also suggest that you next time find a more suitable title, if the only criteria to win it is to write the most articles.DanGong (talk) 20:47, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New User Questions - Wikipedia Asian Month Contribution[edit]

Hello, I am a new user. I have tried to find out how to join Wikipedia Asian Month but do I need to have my own page created first under my user name 'Dahdata'? Also, I would like to write an article about one of the women in the Red List for Asia but not sure if I am able to do this as an individual contributor; please advise.

Thank you very much for your time

You do not necessarily need to create your user page. Ask to organizers of your local wiki for more details. —Takot (talk) 11:39, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Duration of the project[edit]

privacy[edit]

"We will only collect address information, your real name, and username, and only the address and real name will be given to the affiliate who will be sending postcards; your username will not be given." Yet somehow both my username and real name are written on the postcard I received for the 2020 contest. --Lupe (talk) 14:15, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
