Telugu Wikimedians is a group of Wikimedians who work on the growth and promotion of Telugu Wikimedia projects, develop necessary skills and promote collaboration within Telugu Wikimedians and the broader Wikimedia movement.

The Telugu Wikimedian user group is dedicated to working for the Wikimedia and Free Knowledge movement in the Telugu language. However, the user group is not responsible for the content on Telugu Wikimedia Projects.

Goals and Objectives

  • To work towards growth and promotion of Telugu Wikimedia Projects, including content growth and participation related to Telugu in multi-lingual projects like Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
  • To publicise Wikimedia projects among Telugu people and train a larger number of volunteers in participating.
  • To foster a collaborative culture among Telugu Wikimedians and Wikimedians from other Indian languages, enabling them to share their learnings and grow together.
  • To support Telugu Wikimedians' endeavour to enhance their skills and leadership qualities to make more meaningful contributions to Wikimedia projects.
  • To support activities that Telugu Wikimedia communities initiate to the needful extent.

Projects and Activities

Following are the proposed activities of the user group. This is an extensive list of activities that user group would like to undertake over the years. Original version of this page is available in Telugu, here:

  • Online session on effective management of user groups, highlighting experiences of Indian user groups.
  • Defining operational guidelines, elections, and protocols for the Telugu Wikimedia User Group.
  • Media and public relations workshop.
  • Advanced training to enhance contributions on Telugu Wikipedia.
  • National workshop for Indian language Wikipedians, focusing on creating village articles using census data (online/offline format TBD).
  • Conducting Telugu Wikipedia anniversaries and conducting a group-wide meeting to plan the 2024 strategy for user group.
  • A project to Bridge the gender gap concerning participation in Telugu Wikimedia projects.
  • Training Telugu Wikimedians to access and secure Wikimedia Foundation grants, including application procedures and best practices.
  • Raising awareness about successful projects in other Indian language Wikimedias among Telugu Wikimedians. Promoting and enhancing the visibility of noteworthy projects and initiatives within Telugu Wikimedia projects.

Actual

  • The Telugu Wikimedians User Group held its online meeting for September 2023 on 17th September 2023 (Sunday) from 10:30 am IST. Approximately 20 participants attended the meeting. The discussion focused on the following agenda points: organising the Telugu Wikipedia 20th Anniversary, conducting a series of online workshops on 'Accessing Community Resources and Best Practices in Building Projects with Them', and initiating a project titled "Tewiki Lo Yuvatha" (translation: Youth in Telugu Wiki). There was also an informal discussion about the necessity of upskilling existing Telugu Wikimedians and brainstorming ideas for better outreach. Pavan santhosh.s organised the meeting, while Nskjnv, Vjsuseela, Chaduvari, Muralikrishna m, Kasyap, Nikhil, SREEKANTH DABBUGOTTU and others spoke during the call.
