Past names[edit]

https://github.com/thcipriani/wmf-staff-and-contractors extracted a list of past names as well. Nemo 12:15, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Evan[edit]

Re [1], it's mw:User:Evan Prodromou as before. Nemo 10:21, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. There's still nothing on his title, unfortunately... --Yair rand (talk) 06:31, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hm. He's in mw:Core Platform Team and mw:Core Platform Team/FY1819 Closeout mentions him as product manager, but maybe you care about the adjectives too. Nemo 13:12, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Note on syntax[edit]

Note to anyone intending to edit this template: Do not leave any trailing commas in the data. (That is, a comma before a ] or }.) Due to some odd bugs in Mediawiki, this will sometimes appear to work without problems, but some fraction of pages using the template will then show syntax errors. Ideally run through a validator like https://jsonlint.com/ before saving, just to make sure none were left in. --Yair rand (talk) 05:28, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Operations department template error[edit]

@Yair rand: Any idea what is causing errors on the Operations department template? Thanks for your great work on this! --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 17:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GVarnum-WMF: So, the navbox-generating system usually lists all teams of a department, and Operations doesn't seem to have any teams, so there aren't any rows to fill in. I've edited the module so that it doesn't generate an error in such situations. --Yair rand (talk) 17:29, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Yair rand: Awesome - it is working now - thank you so much! :) --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 23:41, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Protection[edit]

Err, I suppose the protection must be a mistake? There's no way this template is viable if protected, at the moment, and in Meta:Requests for adminship/MusikBot II I don't see a consensus to deprecate it. Apparently it was protected for having over 5000 transclusion, which is merely an artifact of being included in a number of translation pages as navigational template. Nemo 15:27, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

+1. Pinging @MusikAnimal:. --Yair rand (talk) 19:40, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Is this a problem? It doesn't appear it was ever edited by a new user, and I'm not sure why it would be. You make a good point about translation pages; the bot doesn't really know about that. I don't know whether it should. The template is still "highly visible", in a sense, but I suppose you could consider a target page + translation pages as a single page? Anyway, I can unprotect this page, if you want, and the bot won't re-protect. If there are other pages that should be ignored, I can add them to User:MusikBot II/TemplateProtector/config for you (see documentation). MusikAnimal talk 19:49, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MusikAnimal: Unfortunately, most staff accounts are not autoconfirmed, and I do think it's important for staff to be able to edit the staff data. --Yair rand (talk) 07:10, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay that seems fair. I have unprotected the template and instructed the bot to ignore it. Regards, MusikAnimal talk 17:08, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Communications team in Communications department[edit]

@GVarnum-WMF: To clarify a recent edit: Is there a team called Communications inside the department called Communications? If so, does it contain Community Relations as a subteam? Or is it instead of Community Relations? (There's the issue of the id in this template; ids are supposed to be stable and unique, so the Communications team could be communicationsteam to be distinct from the Communications department, or it could be communityrelations if it's continuing from the Community Relations team.) --Yair rand (talk) 22:48, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Yair rand: Thank you for the ping on this. I have gone ahead and updated the id to communicationsteam. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 17:18, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia Library staff update[edit]

I found myself quite lost trying to update this page, so hoping that someone can help. The Wikipedia Library team is now located in Product as a standalone team alongside teams like Community Tech and Anti-Harassment Tools in Contributors. I should be listed as 'Product Manager (The Wikipedia Library)', and the other folks at The Wikipedia Library need to be categorised in TWL. Let me know if anything's unclear and thanks in advance! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:47, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Samwalton9 (WMF): To clarify, TWL is under Contributors, or directly under Product by itself (on equal level with Contributors, Readers, etc)? --Yair rand (talk) 22:07, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Yair rand: Under Contributors :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 09:49, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is the purpose of this page?[edit]

I spent some time trying to update this earlier today, and noticed that while the first few sections seem to roughly match up with foundationsite:role/staff-contractors/ it later changes to a different and more hierarchical structure. Is this template supposed to be just an on-wiki mirror of foundationsite:role/staff-contractors and the content drift is due to outdatedness? Is this template supposed to contain some structural information not shown on that page? If so, what is the source of that information and how would one go about updating it? * Pppery * it has begun 02:00, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does Template:WMF Staff/doc answer the question? Nemo 16:04, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
