Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions
The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.
If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.
Hello. I've granted you global renamer rights per your successful vote. Welcome to the team! Please subscribe to the global renamers list and add your details on the global renamers table. You can find all of those in Global renamers. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesistate to ask. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 19:05, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, MarcoAurelio. Actually I got an e-mail from User:Trijnstel a few days ago, asking for my e-mail address. I got the impression that he intended to subscribe me to the mailing list once I'd been granted the rights. I'd just as soon wait for him to do it. (I find those things difficult. Mailing lists are no friends of mine.) Am I supposed to add myself to Template:List of global renamers? That I can manage... :-), but when I look at the template history, it doesn't look like people do that. It looks more like they get added by you guys. Bishonen (talk) 19:27, 15 April 2016 (UTC).
- I've added you both to the global renamers table and the mailing list now. Btw, not that it matters, but I'm a girl. Trijnsteltalk 17:24, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
So the edit warrior needs to be blocked indefinitely and that page needs to be protected...
- Sorry, MIKEL S. SARWONO, I don't think that being "sanctioned" is a reason to indefinitely block him. Since you yourself are indefinitely blocked on the English Wikipedia, I reackon you will have to give me some really good reasons for the actions you would like to see me (and other enwiki admins) do. If you have such reasons, you may add them below. Bishonen (talk) 23:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC).
No renaming between November 20 and November 27
You’re getting this because you’re a steward or global renamer. The Community Tech team are working on cross-wiki watchlists. We need to add a couple of fields to the localuser table in centralauth database. In order to be able to do this, we’d need to run a script that will get in the way of renaming users. Our apologies – we realize this is getting in the way of your work.
(UTC means that if you live in the Americas, it will be on the evening or afternoon of November 19 when the script starts running, and if you live in Oceania or eastern Asia, it can be closer midday on November 27 before we can be sure the script is no longer running.)
