Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

[edit]

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.

Invitation to the Yokohama Editathon

[edit]

Hello Ideophagous. Thank you for your help with the Wikimedia Japan-Morocco Friendship. I'm hosting the Yokohama Editathon starting tomorrow. I'd be grateful for your help in creating articles for the Arabic Wikipedia. Feel free to join us. See the event page for details.

Here's a Diff article about it. Thank you very much. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%97%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B8%E3%82%A7%E3%82%AF%E3%83%88:%E3%82%A2%E3%82%A6%E3%83%88%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%83%81/%E3%82%A6%E3%82%A3%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A1%E3%83%87%E3%82%A3%E3%82%A2%E3%83%BB%E3%83%AF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB%E3%83%89in%E5%9B%B3%E6%9B%B8%E9%A4%A8%E7%B7%8F%E5%90%88%E5%B1%952025/WLF2025%E3%82%A8%E3%83%87%E3%82%A3%E3%82%BF%E3%82%BD%E3%83%B3%E3%80%8C%E6%A8%AA%E6%B5%9C%E3%80%8D Wadakuramon (talk) 07:01, 30 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Wadakuramon. On another topic, I would like to give a badge to all Japanese participants in the Japan-Morocco edit-a-thon, just like I did on arywiki, but I do not have enough rights on jawiki to create the template page of the badge. I have created it as a subpage of my user page here. Can you please check it, copy the code and create the template? The translation was done by Eugene Ormandy. I will take care of distributing it on the talk pages of all participants. I hope it's not against the local policies on jawiki. If that's the case, please ignore my request. Best regards! Ideophagous (talk) 19:11, 1 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ideophagous, I read your request. But I never create a templete, so I don't know how to create. If it easy for me, I will try. Do you teach me how? Wadakuramon (talk) 00:10, 2 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's the same as any Wiki page, you just have to create a new page with the title "Template:日本モロッコ友好会バッジ" (simply follow the link), then copy into it the content of this page. I will take care of the rest. Thanks! Ideophagous (talk) 05:31, 2 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
