Commons:Translators' noticeboard will be renamed[edit]

Resolved.

Hi! I don’t know how you did this, but I think Commons:Translators' noticeboard won’t get a new SUL user name… --Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:37, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out :) Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:47, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Is this because of FuzzyBot? Wouldn't it be a good idea to attach all FuzzyBot accounts to SUL instead of renaming them? --Stefan2 (talk) 00:05, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, ignore the FuzzyBot messages. I'll take care of it. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 23:45, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Username clash... with myself[edit]

Resolved.

I got a message saying that my username clash with another user, but I am pretty sure such a user is myself! I am JanusDC on the English and French Wikipedia (and Janus on the Spanish one, where there is no JanusDC user). Please, let me keep it. What can I do? --JanusDC (talk) 22:26, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You don’t have to do anything. Your accounts are already attached (since approx. 10 minutes, because you’ve given the same password for them). You can view the attach procedure on Special:CentralAuth/JanusDC: you’re done. --Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:39, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But now I do not know how to merge my users Janus and JanusDC on the Spanish wikipedia. What should I do? --JanusDC (talk) 17:05, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For now, just use one account there and after finalization is complete stewards should be able to merge your accounts. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 23:44, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Accounts[edit]

Resolved.

Keegan,

I received a message from you on my talk page saying I'll have to change my username because it clashes with another. Like the above poster, I am the holder of both usernames, so I'd like to merge the accounts: "Nrbelex" on both Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia. I don't see that as an option anywhere. Please let me know what to do so that I may merge the accounts. Thanks.

@Nrbelex: Please visit en:Special:MergeAccount to merge your accounts. Rename is not necessary once unified. Regards. --Vriullop (talk) 11:06, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Accounts clashing with myself[edit]

Resolved.

Dear Keegan, similarly to the above posts, I am the holder of both PeterRet and Peterret accounts, so I'm clashing with myself. In that case, would it be possible to rename the old inactive account (Peterret) rather than the active one? Many thanks in advance. PeterRet (talk) 22:38, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@PeterRet: You received this message per redirect from page User_talk:Peterret. Your current account is fine: Special:CentralAuth/PeterRet. It is the old one to be renamed. --Vriullop (talk) 11:28, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clashing with myself but separated password...[edit]

Resolved.

Dear Sir,

I received the request for a rename of CharlesDelorme accounts on Wikimedia Commons which seems to clash with another account. I'm also CharlesDelorme on fr.wikipedia.org as stated on my user page.

What should I do ?

CharlesDelorme (talk) 23:02, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@CharlesDelorme: Please, set either the same password or same email address on both accounts at frwiki and commons, then merge them visiting fr:Special:MergeAccount. --Vriullop (talk) 11:35, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clashing Accounts[edit]

Resolved.

This has been my username on wikipedia since 2006. It's a long standing username of mine across other media as well. I do not want to lose my account name due to a clash with someone else. Drsocc (talk) 23:10, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Drsocc: It's not clashing with another accounts, see Special:CentralAuth/Drsocc. So, your account won't be renamed. You can ignore the message you got and keep your current user name. Regards, --Stryn (talk) 23:13, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another clashing account with the same owner[edit]

Resolved.

I own both the MediaWiki and wikinews accounts. If there's a way to verify and merge those, let me know. To verify that, I could put this same message on my wikinews page.

--Antonrojo (talk) 23:16, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Antonrojo: is en:User:Antonrojo your account? Special:CentralAuth/Antonrojo shows that it has done most edits and will keep the name "Antonrojo". If it's not your account you will have to ask for renaming. --Stryn (talk) 23:23, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stryn yes it is, as is the wiktionary account Antonrojo. Thanks for following up. --Antonrojo (talk) 04:07, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Antonrojo: did you read Help:Unified_login#How_to_unify_your_accounts? --Stryn (talk) 08:33, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Same here[edit]

Resolved.

I hope the message you have sent me on commons is some kind of a joke - sure I will not like nor even accept to rename my account that is linked to my overall SUL and - as it is my real name - that is used by me for nearly 100.000 edits in wp and more than 25.000 edits in commons. I am not convinced ... -- Achim Raschka (talk) 23:17, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Achim Raschka: No idea what caused that the message was sent to you, but don't worry, you will not be renamed and you can keep your current user name since you have a global account already (Special:CentralAuth/Achim_Raschka). --Stryn (talk) 23:27, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer: seemed to have identified the problem - it was on my former account User:Necrophorus that is redirecting to my account since 2004 and led the message to my name account. For that account there is no need for action since it is not used in de.wp and commons for the last 10 years ... -- Achim Raschka (talk) 08:56, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Username clash, probably with myself[edit]

Resolved.

Hi Keegan,

It is likely that the "other" Dayglored is actually me. I have used that username for two decades in many places on the Internet. So I have placed a message to you on my Wikimedia Commons user talk page where your message appeared, with some questions (rather than clutter your page here). Could you check that out please, and let me know? Many thanks, Dayglored --Dayglored (talk) 23:20, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note to Keegan. This issue has been resolved on Dayglored Commons talk page - no action needed now. QuiteUnusual (talk) 11:52, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming response[edit]

Resolved.

Re your post to wikinews:User talk:Edward Z. Yang.

Sounds like the tooling is buggy; Ambush Commander was the old name I had before I requested a rename to Edward Z. Yang; I don't care about maintaining the name Ambush Commander but please don't rename my current name to Ambush Commander~enwikinews! — Edward Z. Yang(Talk) 23:22, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Edward Z. Yang: You have received this message per redirect from n:User talk:Ambush Commander. Your current account is fine: Special:CentralAuth/Edward Z. Yang. Apologies for the confusion. You can ignore the message and, if you prefer, you can request a local admin to delete redirects from the old account. --Vriullop (talk) 12:31, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Commons account "Sonlui"[edit]

Resolved.

You wrote me telling you would rename my accout.

Actually, my account is c:user:Yanguas. I renamed it in Wikipedias, but it was not possible at Commons, so I had to open a new account.

Is it possible to merge both accounts, keeping the name Yanguas?

Thanks (and forgive my English).

177.188.172.11 23:41, 17 March 2015 (UTC) (Yanguas, ex-Sonlui, and I have no Meta account)[reply]

Hello. You should have User:Yanguas here, according to CentralAuth. Once SUL is finalized stewards should have a tool to merge old accounts together. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 23:48, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename[edit]

Resolved.

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/User_talk:Midgley the renaming thing: they are both me I think, all three in fact. They date back quite a way and I'm the only one I've ever seen. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Midgley (talk)

@Midgley:. You have now merged the en.wikibooks account and so it will not be renamed. If the account at ru.wiki is also yours and you remember the password (or have email enabled) then you can also merge that by visiting Special:MergeAccount. QuiteUnusual (talk) 11:56, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming[edit]

Resolved.

I have had the username Blackcat since 2004 and do not mean to change it. I am qualified as Blackcat on all but seven projects. Let me usurp the name Blackcat on the seven remaining projects rather than change a name with which I have been known for 11 years. Changing forcedly name is unfair and unrespectful for users who have worked here for 10+ years. -- Blackcat (talk) 23:42, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:Blackcat: Are you talking about the notification on your Commons talk page? It seems that there is a different user on Commons, "Blackcat (usurped)", whose talk page redirects to your talk page. It is probably "Blackcat (usurped)" who is going to be renamed instead. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:21, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh Ok. It should 've been deleted when I changed name on Commons years ago in order to harmonize Commons user's name with the one I had on the other project. An administrator failed to merge histories. --- Blackcat (talk) 08:09, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another renaming problem[edit]

Resolved.

Same problem here. The other poliorcetes account is me for sure, since I have that account for a lot of years ago AFAICR. Please hold the renaming and maintain my old one, it is going to produce unneeded inconveniences.

--Poliorcetes (talk) 23:43, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note I am dealing with this on the en.wikibooks talk page. QuiteUnusual (talk) 11:57, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming puzzlement[edit]

Resolved.

Hi, I'm seeing similar comments here, so I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to discuss this or not. I received notification of renaming (and a conflict with an allegedly different "User:Aleal") on two places: [[1]] and [[2]]. Both say the account will be renamed but the idea is to "have the same account name everywhere." So I'm a trifle puzzled by the suggestion of different disambiguated names for each (not that I've worked on either site in ages). I've been more active on Wikipedia, again under the same username.

Since I assume the notifications are partly being done by bot, is there a glitch? Since it in fact seems to be suggesting that I will be renamed differently per site, "Aleal~enwikiquote" and "Aleal~enwikinews." (And I wouldn't mind a link to the conflicting accounts, if only to determine that they aren't mine). Any clarification (or if this has been explained somewhere else, an appropriate link) would be appreciated. Thanks! -- Aleal (talk) 23:46, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Using the author tool seen above, the only account shown which isn't mine (listed as "unattached") is Aleal on the Portuguese Wikipedia (which, since Leal is also a common Brazilian surname, makes sense) who made 11 edits in 2010. -- Aleal (talk) 23:55, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops, scrolled up a bit and saw the answer to Electron about the automated renaming messages being due to a script bug. Sorry for cluttering your space! -- Aleal (talk) 00:00, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another renaming issue[edit]

Resolved.

https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User_talk:Guaka#Your_account_will_be_renamed

I think this is what's happening: I have started contributing as Guaka on Wikivoyage before WV was part of WMF. Now some bot thinks that it's a different Guaka on WV. But it's not. Ideally my accounts would simply be merged instead of moving my edits on WV to a silly~username that I will never use. I have received messages about WV:en and WV:de, there's probably more to come. 92.24.81.173 23:57, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Unfortunately there is another User:Guaka who is global and highly active and this account owner will receive the Guaka name :( I know it's not fair to you that became a part of this project through the merger of Wikivoyage into the WMF farm, but that is how the process will work. You do not have to use the Guaka~wikivoyage name in the message sent to you, you can request a rename to something very similar if you would like. I know this isn't the news that you were expecting, and I'm sorry about that. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 23:53, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Account rename for no apparent reason[edit]

Resolved.

Keegan,

Today I received an e-mail saying that my username, JulieC would be renamed because in a grand merging effort it conflicts with JulieC and wikimedia.org. However, this account name at en.wiktionary.org AND [ht /www.mediawiki.org mediawiki.org] AND Wikipedia.org AND meta are ALL ME, all registered to the same e-mail address. I would much prefer not to have to remember multiple usernames in this username unification, so could you NOT rename me here? It only makes sense, and it seems I am not alone. I suggest that before you proceed (or maybe you should IMMEDIATELY UNPROCEED), that the rename script adds a check for email address sameness. It's really easy to do in 99.999% of programming languages. The author tools shows only one other JulieC account on da.something that has zero accounts. Which one of these is not like the other?

JulieC (or JulieC~enwiktionary, which is just horrid)

I came here to say the exact same thing! — Brianary (talk) 00:59, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Brianary: you've logged in which has attached your accounts and will not be renamed.
@JulieC: your accounts are attached and will not be renamed except this account here at meta, which might have a different password which prevents us from automatically attaching it. You can go to Special:MergeAccount to fix this. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 00:07, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename of Rosa Lichtenstein[edit]

Resolved.

Hi, I have just received this rather odd message from you:

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Rosa Lichtenstein. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Rosa Lichtenstein~enwikibooks that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yours

I am Rosa Lichtenstein; there is only one of me! So, I do not need this new user name.

Thanks anyway!

I'd sign off in the usual way, but your system neither recognizes my old password, or the new user name you have assigned me!

Global rename: zandperl[edit]

Resolved.

Hi, I got a notification that my account name would need to be changed because of "someone" having the same username elsewhere in MW, but the accounts under the name of "Zandperl" on Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and Wikimedia are all me. I have put the following boilerplate text at the top of all three userpages to prove that they're all me.

I have the username zandperl across other MW services:

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to prove these accounts are all me, and to instead get them merged. --Zandperl (talk) 01:11, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename account for no apparent reason Góngora[edit]

Resolved.

Hi. I've just got this message from you saying that my current account "Góngora" will be renamed. This is my global username for all Wikimedia projects and so far "Góngora" has been my username for several years, since I decided to change my old username "Gustavo86". I'm an admin, bureaucrat and checkuser on other wiki projects and I would like to keep my current name "Góngora", which already belongs to me in all Wikimedia sister projects and has been my name for many years. Therefore, please, I do not want my old username back. I changed it for a reason and, needless to say that I do not want a new username; I want to keep mine. Thanks. Short answer: No (as in Hell No).

Long answer: You've already done this once before to me for the same (silly) reason, and I went along with it. That's why my current ID is JNavas2 instead of my original JNavas. But enough is enough. If you force another (pointless, crappy) change on me, then I'll just wash my hands of Wikimedia. I'm already fed up enough that I now put most of my energy into my own blog.

Comment: With all the many problems at Wikimedia that seriously need fixing, it's hard to imagine why you would needlessly annoy and drive away what's left of your community. Apparently good judgement is as much in short supply as technical competence.

John Navas (talk) 01:41, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jnavas2: I got your email as well. For what it is worth, by logging in and using the same password your accounts have been attached and will not be renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 05:04, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but now you need to ask yourselves how this happened in the first place, and what can be done to prevent recurrences. My own take is that the Wikimedia culture is fundamentally broken in that it treats people more as annoyances than as essentials worthy of respect. The notion of policing with bots is a good (actually bad) example of what can come out of that kind of culture. As a start, get rid of anyone who insults a user. Seriously.

I own all Hanii Puppy accounts, and I don't want to change my name. I don't see why I'm being forced to change my name on some sites, and why I'm not being given to merge the accounts. There had to have been some hint that people would have accounts under the different systems using the same username, and I don't see why there wasn't a check to offer merging accounts using the same email address, or display a notification across all conflicting sites allowing for accounts to be merged where usernames are the same, instead of being forced to rename. Seems that all you'd have to do is have both accounts agree to a merge. Since the user has the password for both, that would ensure that it's the same user. "Shylock (Wikipedia)" sends a merge request to "Shylock (Wikisource)." "Shylock (Wikisource)" approves it, and they're one account. That simple. Cfortunato (talk) 04:32, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's even simpler: if the accounts have the same password, all they have to do is log in and the connected accounts will attach :) Keegan (WMF) (talk) 02:15, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Do not rename my account[edit]

Resolved.

My account of the same name, is also my account. There is no reason to rename my account anywhere, I own this account name on the other wiki's. Do not rename my account without permission, thanks. --Zeno McDohl (talk) 04:32, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Zeno McDohl: Your account has been unified, so you can keep your username. --IW 11:37, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Change of username[edit]

Resolved.

Hello. Please don't change my username Aeron10. My user name is not "Immagine.poesia" and I don't want it to become "Immagine.poesia~itwiki". Aeron10 is my username in all wiki projects. Please help me to keep Aeron10 as my username. Thank you --Aeron10 (talk) 05:26, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Aeron10: The account to be renamed is "Immagine.poesia", not "Aeron10". You can ignore the message. Sorry for the confusion. --Vriullop (talk) 23:06, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Vriullop. "Immagine.poesia" doesn't exist anymore. It was the name I changed with "Aeron10".
So don't rename it please. It is not in use. Thanks--Aeron10 (talk) 10:16, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Aeron10: For some reason it still exists: Special:CentralAuth/Immagine.poesia. As it is blocked and you will not use it anymore, it does not matter, you can forget it. --Vriullop (talk) 14:11, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong name in Wikisource and Wikiquote[edit]

Resolved.

The entry with "Your account will be renamed" suggested that my username will be changed to Mortsggah, which I don't use any longer. I couldn't change it to my current username by the rationale that it is already in use, by me. I don't want my username to be switched back to Mortsggah because of this. Mikael Häggström (talk) 05:28, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The script was just following the redirect from your old name. You will not be renamed back. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 04:09, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"q:User:Jeff Q" renaming not necessary[edit]

Resolved.

You posted a notice to "q:User talk:Jeff Q#Your account will be renamed" that "your account clashes with another account also called Jeff Q". A quick global account information check showed that the only other use of this name was my identical en:WP account. Both are official, public doppelgängers to protect my active account, User:Jeffq. As I never use them to edit, I hadn't thought to unify them with Wikipedia:Unified login. I've corrected that error. Please let me know if there are any further questions or issues. Thanks for the notice! ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:42, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I just noticed that the official {{doppelganger}} banner (at least on en:WP and en:WQ) includes the statement:
Please notify [active user_talk_page] when taking any action on this account.
You might want to update your process for notification, as it didn't following this advice here. You might be unnecessarily changing other doppelgängers that don't create any actual name conflicts. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:56, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for merging your accounts. Nothing else needs doing now. --Nemo 06:37, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Update your data[edit]

Resolved.

It's more than one year that I have accorporated all wikis under the user name "Lagrande". "Semiramide" is not used anymore, maybe only on Wikimedia. Therefore please don't modify anything, just put Semiramide of Wikimedia together with Lagrande. Thanks --Semiramide (talk) 05:45, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nemo 21:21, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming my account[edit]

Resolved.

You told me that my account would be renamed Zeal~fiwiki, because there was somebody else with the account name Zeal. I have, however, not been under the name Zeal since 2006. Since then my account has been named Kuohatti. If I have to change my account name to unify my account, I wish not to unify my account at all, because the only Wikimedia project I use is the Finnish language Wikipedia. Kuohatti (talk) 05:53, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kuohatti, that was an error by an automated system, which was redirected to your talk page by a redirect from your old name. You have your new name and you have it merged on several projects. You can keep this name and have to take no action. All the best, Taketa (talk) 06:16, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your account will be renamed [commons][edit]

Resolved.

Hi there. I've recieved a message from you that my account on commons will be renamed to "Leafnode~commons", despite the fact that the commons account is merged to a global account of mine. Could you explain what the situation is? --Leafnode (talk) 08:16, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Leafnode: c:User talk:LeafBot is a redirect to your talk page, the message delivery system follows redirects. The message concerns LeafBot. Please login with your bot account on pl.wiki and run Special:MergeAccount there. Otherwise your commons bot will be renamed. --IW 12:35, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Very concerned[edit]

I'm very concerned about the messages we got at nl.wiki. I see that in many cases, your messages have revealed old user names, which often contain (part of) the real names of that person. If a person chose to change his user name to contribute more anonymously, I think it is highly undesirable that you expose their old user names containing personal information - sometimes after many years when almost everyone has forgotten about it.

I would suggest that you revert all these messages, let them be hided, and delay the renaming process, until consensus is reached about this process. If consensus has been reached somehow with each of the individuals concerned, please provide me the relevant links - I'm not so familiar with the whole SUL finalization procedure but I'm very concerned about the privacy of many of our users. Kind regards, Josq (talk) 08:20, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Josq: the script was stopped when this was brought up and the code changed to skip redirects. I do understand the privacy implications, but the script was following redirects that users left in place from their old accounts to their new one. We did not link any accounts that were not already linked on-wiki. I do apologize for the disturbance. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 04:09, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
