How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Random comment[edit]

You aren't on the new IRC. It's rather unfortunate. Who else is going to translate bus tickets for me while discussing coffee and wine? TonyBallioni (talk) 03:55, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TonyBallioni: Hey, man. I am trying to focus mainly on onwiki stuff because 2021 was not easy for me. But I am planning to go back to IRC soon.
What about you? and the rioters? LoL :) RadiX 04:26, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sad to hear 2021 wasn't easy for you, but totally get focusing where you have the time. I was away from everything for a while as well. You know me, I'm a riot. TonyBallioni (talk) 22:54, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For this, that was my mistake—I should have checked. -- TNT (talk • she/her) 13:18, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I note ca:Viquipèdia:Elecció de verificadors de comptes d'usuari/2022#Votacions says "Joutbis and Jmrebes are approved as new CUs.", but I am guessing that's why you temporarily removed KRLS pending them signing etc? :-) -- TNT (talk • she/her) 13:22, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, no prob :) RadiX 13:30, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TheresNoTime: Yep, I removed KRLS's flag because the signatures of Joutbis and Jmrebes are still missing, so they still can't be granted their CU permissions. So KRLS would remain as the only local CU for a while. RadiX 13:36, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Two-step authentication[edit]

Hi RadiX,

I'm DARIO SEVERi, a global sysop.

I lost my phone a few months ago and I'm not getting the message with the verification code to add in two-step authentication. I am using the 10 keys (16 numbers or letters) that were sent to me to enter the project in case of emergency, I have already used most of them.

Could you please change my phone number so I can get the message? or it is possible sending to me other 10 keys so I can keep editing as sysop?

Sincerely DARIO SEVERI (talk) 04:11, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Olá RadiX, o Martin Urbanec já me respondeu. DARIO SEVERI (talk) 13:02, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DARIO SEVERI: Desculpe, visualizei a mensagem agora. Que bom que já deu certo. Abraços, RadiX 17:32, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock 59.153.240.0/22[edit]

Why is this ip range globally blocked? And why do you think the reason for that is Open proxy/Webhost? This ip range is from MobiFone internet service and i'm currently in Hanoi and want to edit in Vietnamese Wikipedia. Please check if there are any mistakes. 59.153.241.47 02:13, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
