Undisclosed paid editing and other types of (self-)promotion are a form of POV-pushing with the goal of promoting or publicising an entity (usually people, companies, or products) for the purposes of marketing, "reputation management", or search-engine optimisation.
Regularly, these efforts span across multiple Wikimedia projects; historically, lack of coordination has lead to inefficient processes with duplicated efforts across individual projects. Wikiproject Antispam is intended to provide a hub for coordination in cross-wiki spam cases. The basic process is:
- investigate the suspected accounts
- file sockpuppet investigations or CheckUser requests where needed
- block the accounts
- alert the communities of all affected wikis and revert or delete the content where possible
- monitor for returning accounts long-term
What we cannot handle:
- promotional spam which involves only one wiki: please contact local administrators
- spambots and cross-wiki vandalism: Please make reports at Steward requests/Global
- severe harassment: please contact Trust and Safety
