I have talked to our developers about that. They question the accuracy of the bot (wonders whether its data is correct and whether it is not blocking innocent users). But generally, this is considered a bad idea because there are extremely numerous ip addresses to block for being open proxies (so, is inefficient) and because it is a strain on the servers. As such, they strongly advise against.

'''I consequently unsysoped the account Proxybot''' and would suggest that the issue is brought to the wikitech-l mailing list, to check the interest, relevance and accuracy of this bot. Depending on the outcome, status could be restored or not.

I'll add that it is not really recommanded to mix bot and sysop status. And that the thousands of blocking make the ip block list totally unusable. Which is not very wikicool to other editors.

Requests for permissions is a page to ask for sysop/admin, bureaucrat or CheckUser access to any Wikimedia wiki where no local means exist to do so yet. A steward will only give you access if your wiki has no bureaucrats (someone who can make sysops). If your wiki has a bureaucrat, please use the requests for adminship page on your own wiki instead.

For urgent access (to combat ongoing large-scale vandalism), you may ask on the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channels instead.

Stewards: all requests presented here should be archived when fulfilled.

Boilerplate Request for Permissions

The text below is a template for requesting specific permissions on a wiki. Please copy it and complete the three required points, plus other salient information.

===== Project name =====

I request sysop access on ''ps.wikipedia'':

*'''Language Code:''' ps
*'''Local Request Link:''' [[ps:Project:wikipedia]]
*'''Local User Page:''' [[ps:User:waliachakzai]]

Thank you. ~~~~

Notes:

  1. Be sure to complete the information as requested. Without it, a steward cannot process the request.
  2. Please add the request here after the community approval.
  3. Be aware that local request page (RfA) may not be the same with the administrators page.

Current Requests

Please place your request at the end of the appropriate section below, and state in the heading which project you are referring to. All requests for permissions are subject to approval by the local community, and any unauthorised permissions will be revoked upon complaint. Please remember to inform your community of your request. A steward will notify you when the request is processed.

CheckUser rights

To ask for a steward to answer one of your request, see Request for CheckUser information.

Note to stewards : when someone ask a checkuser status, please check the current policy of attribution of status BEFORE giving this status. When you give someone checkuser, please list them here : CheckUser. Thanks

According to policy, there is no TEMPORARY status of checkuser. Either there are already checkuser on a project and these people must be asked to do the checkuser. Or there is nobody and a steward must do it. Giving a temporary status to anyone just simply asking it to a steward, with no agreement from the local community is against the checkuser status rules. Giving it with no request mentionned anywhere is even more problematic. Breaching these rules should imply removing the status of the steward if he can not be trusted to follow commonly accepted rules. If any one has a problem with this rule and wish that from now on, checkuser status be given to anyone without any community discussion, he must have the current rules changed, not breach them. Thanks Anthere 03:24, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Note: When giving someone checkuser, please (a) ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l and (b) email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list. (The list may contain confidential information.) - David Gerard 15:22, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any request made in a different paragraph than this one should not be considered.

List here request for access to the status:

English Wikibooks

I request a review of the CheckUser nominations on English Wikibooks:

Both of these users are very active administrators on multiple projects, and seem to have a good grasp of Wikimedia policies. See the local request page for specific arguments for/against these individuals. --Roberth 00:48, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The CheckUser Policy mandates at least 25-30 users' support for the granting of a checkuser flag; it seems that neither Derbeth nor Uncle G have received sufficient support as of yet. — Dan | Talk 17:20, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Considering that those requests have been languishing since January, and one of the candidates, Uncle G, hasn't edited in over 2 months, I think that local request ought to be redone. 134.10.44.224 05:22, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am challenging the mandate that at least 25-30 users need to support the granting of the flag. Wikibooks is a much smaller project, and this policy has been written to be useful for Wikipedia alone, and telling the rest of the Wikimedia projects to, perhaps politely, go to hell. We are currently being hammered on Wikibooks with a vandal that a checkuser acess would be incredibly useful, and requests for assistance from stewards for checkuser scans has gone completely unanswered. My #1 question that I have over this policy is that it is a Wikimedia Foundation mandate, and can local policies established through the usual channels normally accepted be reasonable? Is there a way to change this check user policy to permit smaller project checkuser access outside of trying to elect new leadership on the Wikimedia Foundation board? Any other route to appeal this decision to not allow checkuser privileges on en.wikibooks? And if en.wikibooks can't have anybody with checkuser privilege, certainly none of the other Wikibooks projects are going to be able to dig up the votes for this either. I would like a clear statement on behalf of the stewards that Wikibooks should not even bother trying to get somebody with this access. --Roberth 02:16, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The quorum (if it may be so called) is intended specifically to restrict the granting of checkuser rights to those projects with communities of a certain size; smaller projects are instructed to use Requests for CheckUser information instead. The policy is certainly not intended specifically for en.wikipedia; all aspects of it are applicable to all Wikimedia projects. (Incidentally, all wikibooks-related requests at the page I have just linked appear to be fulfilled. If you need additional assistance, please e-mail me with specifics, and I will perform the requisite checks in a timely manner.) — Dan | Talk 18:46, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
English Wikisource

I request the promotion of User:Zhaladshar and myself on the English Wikisource. During the two weeks of the discussion, we each received unanimous support from the community. // Pathoschild (talk) 03:52, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

We are far from the 25-30 votes level here. I'm not willing to give CheckUser permissions until this level is still the current rule. villy 17:18, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I request bureaucrat access on Armenian Wikipedia  :

Currently I'm sysop in the Armenian zones of Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. Thanks. Ruben 15:47, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dear ruben, good to see you are still active. i fail to see a vote on the page you point to, however: is there any community at all aware of it? btw, i always prefer to never appoint just one bureaucrat, but at least two, if there are none on a small wiki. grtz, oscar 18:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
oscar, we have got some very active members there (though not so many yet) and every day new ones come up. I hope to enlarge this wiki this year. I informed everybody about this in the Community Portal. What about appointing two bureaucrats, it's your right, you are the steward :) Thanks, Ruben 04:35, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

Self-de-adminship can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. You may be asked to prove you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki first, by putting information on your talk page on your local wiki, that you're requesting de-adminship.

To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When it is finished and there is a community consensus to desysop a user, a trusted person from that wiki should just provide a link here to the discussion and a very brief explanation of what the results of that were.

Please do not open discussions here about rights.

Desysopping of cs:Wikipedista:Egg

Immediate action is needed. Egg behaves incorrectly and doesn't wish to stop it. Evidence (sorted from latest events):

  1. 18:28, 25. 4. 2006 he reverted my own page instead of deleting it as I have whished. I never authorised him to edit my page.
  2. 17:25, 25. 4. 2006 he blocked me for 3 whole days because I dared to edit the arbtration page between Miraceti and me. I reverted two times nonsense accusation that my friend Pastorius is actually my opponent and should be punished. The whole community was against accusation of Pastorius, except for Beren, Egg, Cynik & Jirka O.
  3. 14:14, 25. 4. 2006 he blocked 182162 indefinitely for alleged "improper name".
  4. He ran unregistred bot under his own name and under name Proxybot.
  5. He blocks open proxies for arbitrarily chosen number of days, instead for indefinite period. Reason is that he wishes to mask his blocking of innocent users because both cs:Special:Ipblocklist and cs:Special:Log/block are useless. They are are messed up with his robotic blocks (~ 6000 blocks).
  6. 15:33, 14. 4. 2006 he locked my page for unregistred users, although I had asked him twice to unlock my page.

Summary: Egg doesn't behave as a colleague. He doesn't know the rules and he misuse his powers. He needs to be desysopped immediately. -- Vít Zvánovec 17:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To quote from the above instructions: "To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki." This is not the place to propose a user's desysopping. Please make a request here only after you have obtained consensus among the cs.wikipedia community. — Dan | talk 18:05, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is impossible, since I am blocked and everyone who dared to do it would be blocked as well. -- Vít Zvánovec 18:14, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I support Vit Zvanovec's request. He is also right on money as far as impossibility of any action on Czech Wikipedia - any disent would be (and it is currently) punished by blocks from sysops. It is very Kafka-esque environment on Czech Wikipedia these days. Ross.Hedvicek 18:32, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are 12 other admins... I can't believe that no one of them is helping when there are problems. Please try first to solve this problem locally, there must be at least some reasonable admins... Fantasy 18:41, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am sorry. I was blocked yesterday in the direct breach of Czech ArbCom rules. I asked all the admins for the remedy, except for Aktron who has no valid e-mail adress, Proxybot who is a robot, and Vrba, who is long term ill. I recieved only 2 replies. One after 13 hours, second after 14 hours. Is that normal? -- Vít Zvánovec 19:04, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I remember well... this is not the first time you complain here... and my perception is that your requests were rarely taken seriously. I would consequently advise caution. Could we have a feedback from admins on cs ? Anthere

I consequently unsysoped the account Proxybot and would suggest that the issue is brought to the wikitech-l mailing list, to check the interest, relevance and accuracy of this bot. Depending on the outcome, status could be restored or not.

I'll add that it is not really recommanded to mix bot and sysop status. And that the thousands of blocking make the ip block list totally unusable. Which is not very wikicool to other editors.

rm.wikipedia.org

I am requesting to be an admin in Rumantsch Wikipedia. I think there are no other active admins. My user page: http://rm.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gion-andri (Excuse my english, i'm a reto-rumantsch men :-) )

Gion-andri, you should start a vote on Rumantsch Wikipedia and get the support of the Rumantsch community.
However, given that currently there are no admins on rm.wiki, if you want to translate the interface in Rumantsch, we can give you the adminship for a limited time (one month?). Can this be ok? --Paginazero 19:15, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
this is ok for me. one month should be enough. thanks
Done - temporary sysophood until May 31st. Bye. --Paginazero 12:13, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I made w:sd:User:Aursani temporary sysop there. This appointment expires on 2006-06-31
    • He is the only active user there and likes to setup the wiki, translate stuff and so. If after 3 months there are no complains, this user was active and did not do to strange things as sysop or if there by then some other active users approve he can stay sysop. Check of he by then has discovered that you need to include licence information when uploading files. --Walter 14:34, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to start on doing the same for bn wiki book too. --Ragib 22:52, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ragib, as long as a community does not exist, we cannot grant a permanent sysop status to anyone. How about a temporary permission (one month?), in order to fix the MediaWiki intefrace? --Paginazero 09:35, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is fine by me. Could I have something like 6 weeks or so? There hasn't been any localisation work in the bn wikibooks, I need to complete it. Thanks. --Ragib 21:02, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like to have my Wikipedia username changed, to comply with the username policy. Daybot - would like it changed to TJDay. The subject of my current username has come up here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/User_names 139.222.189.82 19:51, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you are from a wiki that has its own bureaucrat ask it there. Only if you are from a very small wiki you can ask it here to a steward. --Walter 14:41, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stewardship Korean cluster

This is *not* for requests to become steward of the Wikimedia Foundation. Those are appointed by the board.

For technical reasons there were "Florida-cluster Stewards" and "Korean-Cluster stewards" until March 2006. Then Florida-cluster stewards could here request to become also Korean-cluster steward.

This section will be removed due to lack of necessary of request.

Remark
All stewards who had an account on the Japanese Wikipedia as of February 8 2006 were given steward access on both clusters.
