[edit] Bots
Hi! Maybe I'm just misunderstanding something, but shouldn't a bot normally edit for at least a week or make over 100 edits before it can be auto-approved per the bot policy? I noticed vo:User:Ripchip Bot is just 3 days old with about 40 edits. Regards, Jafeluv 13:04, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. she got the bot flag because local 'crats asked for it on the local discussion page. you can see the links. I didn't give her a flag on the rest from the reason you mentioned. Matanya 14:01, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, sorry, I can't see it. You mean vo:Vükiped:Bots? The last edit on that page is the posting of Ripchip Bot's request on 8 March, isn't it? Jafeluv 07:55, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- my bad, I've seen the bot policy, not the request. Matanya 13:56, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] removal of talk page content
You appear to have removed some content that I put on my user talk page, and you claimed that you did so to remove "private data". The only possible part of what I posted that might appear to be "private data" was my own email address, which is not a private address. There were also some imaginary "conversations" that I wrote and copies of some user talk page discussions, such as that from your user talk page, but there was no reason for you to remove the content that I posted. Please return the content that I put on my user talk page to my user talk page. --JWSurf 17:56, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- As a blocked user, that misused the admin and 'crat tools, I don't think you understand the meaning of private data. As a matter of fact I won't do so. Matanya 19:20, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- "misused the admin and 'crat tools" <-- What are you talking about?
-
- "I don't think you understand the meaning of private data" <-- I think you are wrong, but that does not matter. There was no "private data" in what I posted to my user talk page. In case you still have not read what I posted, you can see what I posted here. Please return the content that I put on my user talk page to my user talk page. --JWSurf 19:37, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'm very disappointed to see you spread that post to another place. The discussion is repeating itself, so I'm off it. You totally lack the knowledge of what personal data means. And your email is a personal data as well, but you chose to reveal it. I have nothing to add to this subject and I won't reply on this subject anymore. Matanya 20:34, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- "I'm very disappointed to see you spread that post to another place" <-- Why? If you read it you can see that there is no "personal data" in what I posted. I did include an email address that is my own, but that is my business. "The discussion is repeating itself" <-- only because you will not explain your removal of talk page content from my user talk page. "I won't reply on this subject anymore" <-- Your failure to explain your action to me seems to be a violation of policy. --JWSurf 20:50, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
Deutsch | English | Español | Français | Italiano | Nederlands | Português | Русский | edit
Matanya, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.
Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.

[edit] Confusion
Hello Matanya,
I just read your message on kbd.wiki. Thank you for going into all this trouble and letting me know, and there is no need to apologize, of course. But to be honest, I am confused.
I occasionally see cratship requests being denied due to size of the wiki (Don't see the logic behind it though), but I don't understand why adminship became temporary all of a sudden.
I'd surely appreciate it if you could specify the policy in question.
Best

Hi Matanya , thank you for granting Ora Unu admin access on pflwiki. I wonder why you did that temporarely for six months and not permanent. Is this this a new rule? Of course, that's not a big problem, why could extend it in six months :-). Kind regards, --Holder 04:28, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Leak of private email by Vibhijain
Hi,
Understand your a steward on meta. I dont normally make such requests however there is something I would like you to look into. A private email sent by me to a user (Vibhijain) was leaked by him here [1]. I dont deny the email nor do I see any wrong in it. I dint intend to do anything about it as I felt though the guy is immature he has tremendous potential to do good on wiki globally. This guy was warned not to leak private emails on meta, but he retorted "... This can't be considered a as warning at all."! Just wondering if anything can be done about this. I dont want to scare this guy of wikipedia, hes just 13 at the same time he needs to be dealt with by a firm hand. Hope you can help. Cheers, AroundTheGlobe 17:33, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Global lock of Poetlister accounts
- Poetlister, 26 June 2011 (cross-wiki abuse: Abusing multiple accounts:)
- Cato, 26 June 2011 (cross-wiki abuse: Abusing multiple accounts), unset (Not SUL'ed)
- Longfellow, 5 June 2011 (cross-wiki abuse)
- Quillercouch, 5 June 2011 (cross-wiki abuse)
Were these actions based on a discussion somewhere, open or closed, or is there evidence of recent "cross-wiki abuse" or "abusing multiple accounts"?
Thanks. --Abd 22:07, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- hello, the discussion is here Requests for comment/Poetlister and Cato. You may also see theose local blocks on those accounts. best Matanya 22:24, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
-
- That discussion ended, last comment, 14 September, 2008, and was for information, no decision was made on action. Are you saying that your global locks were based on what was done before then by Poetlister?
- From Poetlister global contributions, the only account of the above that was active recently was on Wikiversity, where he is a user in good standing and has not been a problem. So the only effect of the global lock is to prevent him from editing there.
- Is there a wiki where Poetlister was recently causing disruption, perhaps something I missed? If not, would you consider unlocking, at least Poetlister, which seems to be the name by which he is most widely known. Thanks. --Abd 22:52, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- For full discloser I would expect you to link to this thread, where my name is mentioned. I see that this is not a clear cut. Would you mind If I'll ask other steward to review this, I feel that since I locked it I might be in conflict of interes, as I would want to protect my action. You may choose any steward you wish. Matanya 23:02, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Consulting is fine, of course. This would be speedily resolved if you unlock, at least Poetlister, if you can conclude from consideration that the lock isn't necessary, but you are not required to do anything, I was asking you first because it was your action. If you wish, I'll request on the global locking page. I prefer not to select a steward, because I'd prefer a sympathetic one! -- and I don't test my friends that way. But I might request a 'crat delink on Wikiversity, where the user has positive contributions and there have been no problems. Do you care to disclose what led you to your action? Thanks! --Abd 00:08, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for your civil response. I'd appricate using global unlock page. The reason of this lock was vandal account cleaning, in which I found those accounts and reviwed there contributions. I saw no harm locking them, and I'm not sure I was wrong. best Matanya 05:07, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- I am likewise concerned over the lock of Poetlister. The user is, or rather was contributing positively to enwikiversity. Locking a user who is editing in good faith, regardless of past history, doesn't sit well with me. The harm comes from the good contributions which are lost as a result of him not being allowed to edit anymore, when his only recent edits have been productive. [edit] Getting the ballot dump from the last election
Hi Matanya! Thanks again for the great work you did helping out with the board election. I have been doing some number crunching on various wikimedia datasets [2]. The ballot data, removed of voter names of course, is going to be made public at some point, but the sooner that could happen, the better. I don't always have this much free time to learn from datasets, and we also have a referendum scheduled for August. Aside from looking for bugs in the interface, I'd also like to do exploratory factor analysis to try to learn about our electorate and its diversity. --Alecmconroy 07:45, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Mass desysop on en-wiki
Hi there. Per your user page on en-wiki I'm asking you here about a set of steward actions you took recently. See here (old version) and here and the clarification section I started at the end of the latter thread. What I'm trying to find out is whether this was a one-off misunderstanding or a systemic failure. Would you be able to comment here or there about this? I've also made a comment here. Thanks. Carcharoth 10:49, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, glad you came here to discuss this issue. One thing that doesn't reduce my responsibility regarding this wrong action, as you can see in the logs, is that I wasn't the only steward how fulfilled this request. For example: here. Anyway, to get to the point, I have learned my lesson form this failure, and a rush removal of such, wouldn't happen on my side again. Moreover, I have checked where was my point of failure, and I found out that my mistake was I didn't read the result of the vote carefully enough and missed this very important detail. I sincerely apologizes about this action, and hope no harm had happened. Thank you for pointing this out, and I'll appreciate if you'll quote my words on the relevant pages. sorry and best Matanya 11:32, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Local unblock
Hi!
I'm an editor/admin on Portuguese Wikibooks and noticed that this action inadvertently prevented the user to edit on that project, where as already mentioned here, he gives valuable contributions (both in discussions about the project and the development of the content of wikibooks - namely b:pt:Logística). I tried to undo that locally (by going to b:pt:Special:Block/Vapmachado), but I wasn't successful. Could you help me with this issue?
Thank you for your help. Best regards, Helder 16:45, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, This user has being abusing many wikis within wikis and outside the wikiworld. His lock shouldn't be removed in my opinion, but if you wish to let him edit on ptwikibooks two options are available: 1) the user should be renamed locally, so the lock wouldn't affect him. 2) you can ask anther steward to review the action, and if he finds it was wrong, he can remove it. best Matanya 17:04, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again!
- I've asked on our Village Pump what other editors think about unbloking user Vapmachado on that project, and since they are favorable, I followed your suggestion and contacted another steward (see Anthere's talk page) to have a second opinion about this. Thank you for your help. Helder 21:11, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] 188.51.0.32
Hello. Yesterday I posted on VR a complaint about an IP spammer, who seems to be back as 188.51.0.32 [cross-wiki-contribs] — IP info — [gblock]. The problem is that the Toolserver fails to open a page with cross-wiki contributions, which makes tracking down the vandal harder. Yesterday I manually came across four projects where he left traces behind, today I decided to report it here on sight just after his reappearance on ukwiki. Do you have a technical possibility to find every edit by 188.55.9.180 [cross-wiki-contribs] — IP info — [gblock] and 188.51.0.32 [cross-wiki-contribs] — IP info — [gblock]? Otherwise I have no clue about how to revert everything. --Microcell 20:38, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

- PLEASE mark the removal of expired permission at Steward requests/Permissions/Approved temporary before archiving, as you removed the expired administrator flag of Reder@sg.wikipedia without noting the removal before archiving. I just noted the removal.
- THANK you for understanding.
- SORRY, because you just archived today's expiring permissions too fast, I was misled to enter a comment about the bureaucrat flag of rohit rawat@hiwiktionary into the wrong section. Therefore, I just reverted your archiving to enter more comment. Once the bureaucrat flag of rohit rawat@hiwiktionary is resolved, the requests may be much more properly archived.--Jusjih 09:54, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Some concerns regarding 小躍@hak.wikipedia
Hi Matanya, I have some concerns regarding the approval of sysop flag for 小躍@hak.wikipedia. He requested for sysop at 02:12 3rd Aug. Within an hour 3 accounts were created [3] [4] [5]. These were the only accounts that supported his application. When someone questioned this on zhwikipedia, he immediately go and block these three accounts for one year, but the reason was 'spam'.
I am quite concerned over this case. Though his application would've been approved even no one voted support, these accounts are extremely likely to be sockpuppets, and to have someone who uses sockpuppets in RfA is very disturbing. --Bencmq 07:08, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] confusion
hello, I have seen you have archived some steward request for temp adminship in the closed archive, shouldn't they be in the temp unexpired page? Matanya 13:54, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Matanya. Normally stewards have to add temp adminships to Steward requests/Permissions/Approved temporary when they grant the access, not when they archive. As I use a script that automatically archives steward requests every day, they go to the normal archives too, but I'm not sure that's a big issue if they are duplicate this way, as long as they stay in the archives.
- But never mind, I will check all 2011 permissions archives to be sure nobody has been forgotten, and update the temp list consequently. Thanks, and have a good evening ! ;) -- Quentinv57 (talk) 14:45, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Done Everything is okay now. But I dunno what I could do to solve this issue in the long-term... Stewards, when they give temporary access, never use the same words, so it would be hard to do this automatically (sometimes they never use temporary or expire in their message :P). I think that the best way to prevent this would be to increase their awareness. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 16:12, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- thank you very much, will note that in future. Matanya 17:45, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Please, I was blocked again at Indonesian Wikipedia. I do not bully really. I just told to reconsider their decision. I even talked more and more refined in every voters as well. And again, on the nomination before I even do worse than that blocked why do not I? Or because I was mocking the id:User:Sentausa "Si Lamban dari WikiLand" (The Delay of WikiLand) I scoff at id:User:Ezagren "Anak Durhako" (Son of Lawless) ? It's just a joke wrote again. Similarly, id:User:Mimihitam give a nickname to id:User:Willy2000 "BadutWiki" (ClownWiki) in here ==> id:User talk:Willy2000/arsip3#Interwiki. Please consider again, have mercy on me to cook I have to enjoy the Christmas holiday with iron bars in the state like this. [edit] Hard problem
Hi, I have an important question. In our Wiki, we had approved (with consensus) that every user should have more than 75 percents of the votes to be an admin (In English Wikipedia it's 70%). All of our sysops had been an admin with a bigger than 75% of the votes. Currently there is a RfA voting and the nominated user has a percentage between 70 & 75. The problem is here that some of our bureaucrats said he may be an admin with a percentage more than 70! I know this is very unsound, but I wanna know if they do this and the user became an admin with a percentage less than 75, then what we can do? 30% of the opposites are the admin, and the NPov-nullity of the user was proved with many discussions, but it seems that our bureaucrats want to neglect all of the rules and make him an admin. If it happened, where can we go for protest? Can we want a Steward to judge this problem instead of our bureaucrats? Beforehand thanks 178.131.116.193 18:38, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit] GedawyBot
Hey Matanya, I posted some concerns about GedawyBot's editing on ar.wiktionary at SRB. I notice you flagged the bot on a few other Arabic wikis. Maybe it would be a good idea to check if it's doing similar things on those projects? Regards, Jafeluv 09:35, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Hello Matanya. Just a refresher course about archival here, see previous discussion ;-)

[edit] he/en help needed
Hi Matanya, I was looking for someone who speaks Hebrew and English, and found you :-)
Could you please have a short look at en:Automatic milking and then at he:חליבה מכנית? Interwiki links connect these articles to each other (as well as other language articles; see also the Commons category). Now I want to know what exactly the Hebrew article is about. From the used images and the few English words in it I guess that it's about milking dairy cattle in general, about milking machines, or about types of milking parlors (see the bits below the "סוגי מחלובים" heading), but not especially about automatic milking ("milking robots"). So either interwiki links have to be corrected globally (I would do that if I knew what the Hebrew article is about, and which other topics would match better), or the images in the Hebrew article (and maybe parts of the text) have to be changed/updated to actually reflect its topic. I hope you can help out a bit in this case. Many thanks in advance --:bdk: 14:15, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, glad to help :) the Hebrew article is about any type of mechanical milking, which one of those types is automatic milking. Might be better to link an article about any type of non-handed milking. best Matanya 15:02, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- That was a quick reply! Thanks for clarification. --:bdk: 15:29, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] ksh-Wikipedia needs your help
Hi Matanya, you helped us yesterday at ksh-wikipedia by reversing a change caused by vandalism. ksh-wikipedia is suffering since nearly 2 weeks under extreme vandalism. There seems to be one person who deletes the contents of up to 10 pages per day substituting it by different sentences. They all have one thing in common. The new sentence always contains the words "Harald Krichel". I have heard that there is a possiblity to block saving special words by adding a filter. Is this correct? Can you help us at ksh-wikipedia. Although I am an administrator at this small wikipedia I do not know how to add this to our wiki. It would be very kind if you could be of help. [edit] Is it allowed in Wikipedia?
To keep in the pages of wiki Administrator's personnel thesis? at http://sd.wikipedia.org ? Other problem is We call Computer as same in English, but admin forcibly used his word Ganpukar of Computer. I have proof that thousands of published books called it Computer not Ganpukar. If some one oppose him he started abusive language. That is the reason sd.wikipedia.org never got attraction to Sindhi community. Plz check record there. Other things are he locked CSS due to that on the same site there are lot of font styles appeared there. He is not able to set commonCSS or Monocss. We are in trouble to work in our local Sindhi language. I don't know where to say for this problem. Record history says all the situation there. I appeal plz warn him to follow en.wikipedia.org rules, other wise he will continue use his personnel details and personnel promoted articles there. Dear I am sorry If u r not right person to say all about this, Plz suggest me where I can raise this issue. My sd.wikipedia.org ID is same. [edit] expiration
Hi Matanya, I would like to remind you that the term of adminship of User:Bellavista1957 on Persian Wikisource has expired but he still has his adminship right. His RfA that just one user voted for him cannot be considered valid anymore. Could you please remove his adminship privilege? Regards from Iran to all Israeli people. Americophile 11:18, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi,
Done. thanks for notifying me and best regards. Matanya 11:50, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Dear Matanya: for your information, Americophile is a vandalist in Wikipedia farsi who is being blocked for six months until the end of the March 2012. Since October 2011, he has explored wikisource farsi and since then he is attacking and harrassing me on a daily basis. Now he has given you false informaion about my adminship status. First of all, Mardetanha has extended my adminship beginning 16 july , 3 months plus six months and plus 12 months. Regarding RFA , Americophile has given you false information. in between, Americophile tried to organize de-administration, five users voted for me and two users , Americophile and Huji who has not been active in Wikisource Farsi in 3 years and had only 60 edits voted against me whereas, other users appreciated my work, and requested that Americophile be blocked for six months as he is in Wikipedia Farsi. New voting in my favor. Regards from Iran to all Israeli people, you have to consider it in a very special light and meaning. Look at commons category:2011 attack on the British Embassy in Iran ., you will see that Americophile who took all these photos was part of the crowd who attacked the British Embassy. Even you can find photos taken by him from inside the embassy. Giving wrong information to an Steward to harass me and damaging wikisource Farsi shows clearly his intentions. My best regards.--Bellavista1957 14:58, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hello there. I have noticed your email, but since I can't find any extension by mardetanha, I have send him the request, since he handled this. Matanya 15:35, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yes, I'm currently blocked on FA:WP but it is completely irrelevant to your de-adminship process on Persian Wikisource (Wikisource is a completely different project than Wikipedia). About your claims of attacking and harassment, this user talk page is not an appropriate place to make a complaint against me; if you really think that I'm attacking or harassing you on Persian Wikisource, you can easily make a complaint on administrators' noticeboard on Persian Wikisource. There is no false information about your adminship term. User:Mardetanha suggested you a temporary three-month adminship and you agreed and the term of your adminship has expired about 1 month ago. And I think there is no need to mention that User:Huji is an established user of Persian Wikipedia (and a brilliant sysop there) and a sysop on Meta (here), so you can not describe him an evil user as you did about me. I will also make a complaint against you on administrators' noticeboard of Meta because of accusing me to be a member of those stupid attackers on British Embassy in Tehran and being affiliated to Basiji forces. I love photojournalism and take lots of photos about incidents taking place in Iran. Regards from Iran Americophile 15:47, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Dear Matanya, I also want to draw your attention to the fact that User:Bellavista1957 blocked me for 6 month for nothing (maybe because I was blocked on fawp :-) but fortunately User:Mardetanha, who is a sysop there, unblocked me in a few moments. And I want to draw your attention to the fact that User:Bellavista1957 has been blocked several times on fawp (It's irrelevant but I did this because he did the same about me). I'm also an established user of Commons and your colleague there. It really made me upset when he accused me of being hostile towards Israeli people. I love all people and it doesn't matter where they live, whether in Israel or in Iran. Americophile 16:25, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

- Fisrt, as I said on IRC, I apologize. the sequence was this way: 1) I have Noscript installed, so no js was applied on me. 2) I wrongly calculated the time-zone difference between me and UTC. 3) I wasn't aware stewards have the technical ability to edit, and since I got no warning or so, I edited. sincerely apologies. What made you think that https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Meepmeepmeep123 is a long term abuser? Just the username? Not a lock based on evidence (edits, CU data?) I do not believe you assumed good faith here and just "jumped the gun". --Bsadowski1 (talk) 22:37, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Question about you direct jumping in mr@wikipedia
Hi, Matanya
I don’t know why you have taken decision on Mrathi Wikipedia to ban the user. I was in discussion with the people involved on that issue that time which has taken now wrong turn. I don’t know you understand Marathi or not, but it may have been better if you may have allowed the local decision to be handled by the local admins, instead jumping in directly; which has now created lot of shouting and confusions in community. Check on village pump. There is no point in asking Sankalp now. Can you please clarify why you jump in ? Is there any request from marathi admins ? Your answer will very much appreciated and will help to resolve the issue. Thanks Hari.hari (talk) 14:24, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
