Instructions

Before posting here

If there is a bureaucrat on the local wiki, please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:UserRights on the relevant wiki. Before requesting access here, make sure to obtain consensus on the local wiki if there is a community (see the index of request pages). If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect. You can ask local bot flag directly here for some wikis in some cases (see automatic approval).

Remember to read the local project's bot policy. This should be linked from the local bot request page; a few are listed below. DO NOT post your request here without having fulfilled the local policies first, and having waited for at least a week to gauge community opinion.

Making a request

  1. Place the following code at the bottom of the "Bot status requests" section below:
    ===Bot name@xxproject===
    {{sr-request
     |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
     |domain    =
     |user name =
     |discussion=
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

    You can use following form when applying global bot status:

    ===Global bot status for <yourbotname>===
    {{sr-request
     |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
     |domain    = global<!--don't change this line-->
     |user name =
     |discussion=
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

  2. Fill in the values:
    • 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
    • 'user name': the bot's user name (like "ExampleBot"). Leave it blank if you're requesting access for multiple bots.
    • 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the bot (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Bots#ExampleBot]]"). Notes: If there is no local vote or discussion, please say so below the template and explain why not. If there's no community, implement the standard bot policy instead.
  3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Global bot requests

Global bots are enabled on most wikis using the standard bot policy (see list of global bot wikis and global bot access requirements). Request will typically be left open for several days to allow comments. Please add requests at the bottom of this section.

Global bot status for ChuispastonBot

ChuispastonBot is a bot written in python (pywikipedia framework) whose purpose is interwikis. It works on the toolserver. Its owner is Grimlock, and is able to discuss in french, english or spanish (one day, perhaps, in german). As it is possible to check it with the SUL tool of vvv, it has more than 40 bot flags on different wikipedias and wiktionaries and more than 150 000 edits. Done. --Mercy 09:00, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Global bot status for WikitanvirBot

Hello, I am requesting global flag for my bot. Though the account was created in January 1, 2010, but It has been running since the end of October, 2010, and it's been 3 months. It did almost half a million edits on 200+ projects, and flagged on over 190+ wikis. Now, I think it can be trusted with a global flag. Thanks, for your consideration. — Tanvir • 04:01, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Global bot status for DEagleBot

This bot is written in python (pywikipedia framework), and mostly works with interwikis. Now bot mainly is using in lv.wp (because don't have any others flags), but future aim: to become as main bot for early Latgalian Wikipedia (now in incubator) --Dark Eagle 16:17, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Marking as not done. Too few bot flags and edits. --Mercy 08:56, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of global bot status

General discussion on the requests for removal of global bot status below

General discussion on the requests below should continue here: Talk:Bot policy#Inactive global bots should lose their global bot status. --UV 22:36, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This bot currently is not “active” (“on several wikis”) for the purpose of maintaining interlanguage links and/or fixing double-redirects as would be required for global bot access per the policy for global bots:

After May 24, 2010, this bot made edits on only four wikis (is.wikipedia until June 2010, commons until August 2010, ru.wikipedia [local bot flag] and uk.wikipedia [local bot flag]).

I therefore request removal of the global bot status for now. (Of course, it is possible to re-apply for bot status if the requirements are again met in the future.) --UV 22:36, 30 January 2011 (UTC) Bot operator was notified here. --UV 23:06, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is inactivity a reason for removal status? Does the bot status disturb you?--Anatoliy (talk) 17:37, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Ahonc, I stated my reasons on Talk:Bot policy#Inactive global bots should lose their global bot status: Inactive bots (obviously) do not need a flag, and the bot flag makes them an attractive target for password crackers with the risk that linkspam or, worse, malicious (sophisticated) vandalism is not noticed for a relatively long time. So, yes, the bot flag for an inactive bot disturbs me to some extent. Of course, whenever you plan to restart your bot, I would advocate re-granting of the global bot flag to your bot. Greetings, --UV 22:02, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Devs have stated in the past that inactive accounts are actually safer than active ones. So there is no safety improvement involved in removing the flags. Atleast not to the extent you think there is. -Djsasso 02:54, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Djsasso, can you provide the proof link ? --Movses 07:34, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand en:Principle of least privilege, inactive accounts should not be or remain endowed with sysop, bureaucrat, bot or similar privileges. --UV 21:23, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to search, but I know its come up alot on en for example whenever discussing if inactive admins should lose their flag. Personally it doesn't matter to me either way if they are removed. I just don't think we should be removing them until we have a clear idea from the community of what constitutes inactive. To me personally I think inactive is no edits in a year. (which is what we use on simple wikipedia for admins). So when I see bots up here that have edited in the last 12 months I don't consider them inactive. Just feels like this is being done a bit hap hazard. -Djsasso 21:41, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I stopped running my bot several months ago because of a problem with the pywikipedia framework (it automatically deleted links to edit-locked - but still accessible - projects such as simple.wikiquote, which was unacceptable on en.wikiquote). See for example this bot which was permanently banned for removing links to simple.wq. I planned on asking the pywikipedia developers to correct this but never got around to doing it. Please give me a few days to check if this has been corrected, or to ask for a fix, as wq badly needs an interwiki bot. Thanks, chtit_draco talk page 07:38, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please, grant local bot status. I can't make 100 edits because it's restricted before I have bot flag. But they can't give me bot flag, because pt-wiki doesn't have bureaucrats and my request in pt-wiki can't be answered. There are some test edits of bot in pt-wiki. --Movses 04:53, 13 December 2010 (UTC) Movses 04:53, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

local policy says "You must wait for at least a week ...". You added your local request on December 12th. Merlissimo 06:24, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yeah. My bad. What my action in that case ? Just wait one week ? Or I must add a new request 21-dec-2010 ?--Movses 12:21, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That period is refered to the test fase, that takes at least a week. If the stewards allow, you may start the tests. I can check the edits localy, and say if everithing is ok, that if the stew agree. Alchimista 10:40, 15 December 2010 (UTC) (per diff)[reply]

Wait Wait

Let's wait until the one-week test period is over. --Mercy 10:59, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mercy, infortunelly i was wrong. The week i was talking was referring to the test phase, which starts only after a local crat gives permission to the test edits. Only now i saw that a change was made on the bot request page, but it has no support on local policies or was decided by community. I've opened a discussion to try solve the bots approval while we have no crats. My apologies to all of you. Alchimista 13:02, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The term in one week has ended. --Movses 23:57, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I ask you to stop the bot edits for now. We are discussing some changes on our local policy after the absence of crats. If it depends on a local approval, the flag can not be given at this moment, but I think we are not too far from a definition. Sorry about it.” TeleS (T PT @ C G) 19:08, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Runs the Pywikipedia script for interwiki links. Wiki has no users to fulfill requests. There are requests since 2009. Thank you, Firilăcroco discuție / talk 20:53, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not aware of a lower threshold of activity on a wiki that prevents the need for making a local request. Please do so; we set bot flags all the time based on unanswered local requests. Respect for local communities, however small, must be maintained; it is their choice to not answer within the week timeframe. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 13:42, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see nothing. There is a community portal, but no admins, no crats.. It seems maybe no one asked for granting the the standard bot policy yet. It's all up to you to granting the flag or not. :) — Tanvir • 18:48, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
