CIS-A2K is presenting the strategic plans and the priority areas for the period 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2023. This is going to be a one-year strategy and priority document. This year we would not only conduct different programs and activities, but will also prepare for a larger plan for the upcoming year. Our program will align with Movement Strategy and over-all movement priorities.

Background

[edit]

The Access to Knowledge (A2K) program is supported by Wikimedia Foundation since 2012. In these years we have worked on a series of programs, projects and events such as:

Please see CIS-A2K/Events (year-wise list is available), CIS-A2K/Reports, and CIS-A2K/Reports/Newsletter for more information.

2022–2023

[edit]

In 2022, A2K program completes ten years in the movement. We had a plan to apply for a multi-year funding this year (for a period of two years 2022–2023). A multi-year program proposal could give us better opportunity to work on projects such as institutional partnerships, or community engagement which require span of more than one-year for over-all execution. However we are are not applying for a multi-year funding this year, because of the following reasons:

  1. Pandemic: In 2020–2022 (annual plan 2020–2021, and 2021–2022) because of the COVID 19 pandemic, we could not conduct several in-person events despite planning the same. This includes both national-level events and regional events. Several partnership activities (GLAM, education program) were badly affected as the institutions were closed ad the travels were restricted. So we thought currently it would not be wise to apply for a multi-year grant until the situation gets more stable that will allow us to plan for a longer period.
  2. Focused projects: We want to spend some more time on our focused projects. We wish to further work on analysis of different programs, and we'll take the best projects in the multi-year plan.
  3. Internal team building for a longer plan: A multi-year plan needs a stronger and more committed team. We'll continue to work on a more committed team building this year.

So, the program year 2022–2023 we would work on–

  1. Building on our past work, continuing some of the best works we have done.
  2. Planning new events and activities and also:
  3. Preparing the team and program for more sustainable program in future.

Focused areas

[edit]
  • Wikisource: Wikisource will continue to be a focused project. We will work proactively with all Indian Wikisource communities to identify areas of new engagement, as well as provide support towards organising events and activities, including on technical or logistical aspects as per the needs of communities.
  • Partnership and GLAM: We are going to further focus on institutional partnership building. We will continue our collaboration with institutional partners who share our vision on Wikimedia and the free knowledge movement.
  • Content creation: Bringing content under Creative Commons and similar free licenses are going to be a priority for this year as well. We will conduct and support a series of Wiki-events which will help to produce high quality content in different Indic Wikimedia projects.
  • Skill-development: This is important to conduct/support skill-development activities to ensure quality content creation and more effective Wiki-involvement. We'll continue put resources to arrange skill-development events and activities (such as Wikisource training, Wikimedia Commons workshop, orientation and training for partners etc.)

Movement strategy

[edit]

A2K program will align with the Movement Strategy and over-all movement priorities. As a support structure working with the communities and affiliates in India, we’ll work with them in their prioritized strategy implementation process.
