6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

I have successfully organized several Wikimedia projects in Kano, such as Wikipedia Awareness in Kano Metropolis, Wikidata Worshop in Kano, Wikimedia Promotios at Yusuf Maitama University Kano, Hausa Wikipedia Wiki for Human Rights which have effectively engaged numerous editors from the area. However, one challenge that I have observed is the lack of contributions to Wikimedia Commons by Kano Wikimedians. This issue arises from their limited understanding of Wikimedia Commons.

To address this challenge, I am planning to organize a project specifically focused on teaching participants about Wikimedia Commons. The primary objective of this project is to equip Kano Wikimedians with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute to Wikimedia Commons effectively. By doing so, we aim to broaden their participation in various Wikimedia projects beyond just Wikipedia.

The main change I seek to bring is to empower Kano Wikimedians to become active contributors to Wikimedia Commons. By providing them with comprehensive training and guidance on how to utilize Wikimedia Commons, we can expand their repertoire of contributions and enhance the overall diversity and richness of content from the Kano region.

The main approach to achieve this change is through conducting workshops and training sessions that cover various aspects of Wikimedia Commons. These sessions will focus on topics such as uploading media, understanding licensing requirements, organizing content categorically, and fostering a culture of sharing and collaboration. Additionally, we will provide ongoing support and mentorship to the participants, ensuring their continued growth and engagement in Wikimedia Commons.

By bridging the knowledge gap and cultivating a stronger understanding of Wikimedia Commons, we aim to foster a thriving community of Kano Wikimedians who actively contribute to the broader Wikimedia ecosystem. This project will not only empower individuals but also showcase the unique cultural heritage and perspectives of Kano State on a global platform.
