6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The main change that the Wiki Loves Monuments competition aims to bring is the improvement of documentation and representation of cultural heritage monuments in South Sudan. The country's rich cultural heritage may be underrepresented or insufficiently documented, and the competition seeks to address this by engaging the general public to capture and contribute high-quality photographs of these monuments.

The challenges and problems that the competition aims to solve can include:

Limited documentation: Cultural heritage monuments in South Sudan may lack proper documentation, both in terms of visual representation and accompanying information. This limits public access to information about these sites and hinders their preservation and appreciation.

Awareness and engagement: Many people may not be aware of the cultural significance and historical value of these monuments. The competition aims to raise awareness among the general public and encourage them to actively engage in capturing and sharing images of these sites.

To achieve these goals, the main approaches of the Wiki Loves Monuments competition include:

Mobilizing photographers: The competition encourages photographers of all levels, including readers, users of Wikipedia, hobbyists, and professionals, to participate in capturing images of cultural heritage monuments. By involving a diverse group of photographers, the competition aims to ensure a wide range of perspectives and documentation of the monuments.

Community involvement: Collaboration with local communities, heritage organizations, and photography enthusiasts plays a vital role in the competition. Engaging with these groups helps identify significant cultural heritage sites, gather historical information, and promote participation. It also fosters a sense of ownership and pride in the local heritage.

Open licensing and sharing: Participants are encouraged to upload their photographs to Wikimedia Commons, using open licenses such as Creative Commons, which allows for the widespread usage and dissemination of these images. This ensures that the photographs become freely available for use on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

Judging and recognition: A panel of judges, consisting of experts in photography and cultural heritage, evaluates the submitted images based on criteria such as technical quality, composition, and relevance. Recognition and prizes are awarded to the best photographs, which motivates participation and acknowledges the contributors' efforts.

By addressing the challenges of limited documentation, awareness, and engagement, the Wiki Loves Monuments competition aims to enrich the representation of South Sudan's cultural heritage, promote its preservation, and enhance public knowledge and appreciation of these monuments.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

During the Wiki Loves Monuments campaign in South Sudan, several activities shall be organized to engage participants, promote cultural heritage, and encourage contributions. Here are some potential activities for the campaign:

2. Heritage Talks and Lectures (national Archive Center South Sudan) : We shall organize informative sessions where experts and heritage professionals from the Narional archives who are our partners shall share their knowledge about various monuments' historical and cultural significance. These talks can help participants gain a deeper understanding of the sites they shall aid in building the lists for photographing.
3. Photowalks and Excursions: we shall Plan guided tours and photo walks to different cultural heritage sites. Participants can explore these sites together, learn about their history, and have the opportunity to capture unique photographs.
4. Photography Contests: Organize smaller photography contests within the campaign, focusing on specific themes related to cultural heritage. This can help generate enthusiasm and healthy competition among participants, and showcase a diverse range of perspectives.
5. Online Engagement and Challenges: Utilize social media platforms and online communities to create engagement. Encourage participants to share their photographs, stories, and experiences related to cultural heritage sites. You can also run weekly or monthly challenges with specific themes or prompts to keep participants actively involved.
