Project Goal[edit]

Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed.

  1. Hold a three-day conference featuring discussions of topics related to "Enterprise MediaWiki", i.e. the usage of MediaWiki software by and within companies, non-profits, governments, and other organizations.
  2. Further the WMF strategic goal of Knowledge as a Service
  3. Improve the visibility of MediaWiki usage by third-parties
  4. Spread awareness of commercial support, regulatory certifications, and distributions (e.g. BlueSpice)
  5. Recruit new organizations to adopt MediaWiki as a platform for enterprise knowledge
  6. Increase skills for existing editors, administrators, consultants and support organizations
  7. Recruit maintainers and contributors to extensions that are crucial to organizational use outside of WMF
  8. Add or improve content available at mediawiki.org
  9. Provide quality videos of the conference which may be shared, re-used and built upon.

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

  1. What is the purpose of the meeting and why is it important to your community?
Discuss current usage, trends, gaps, opportunities and challenges of using MediaWiki compared to other knowledge platforms
  2. If applicable, what benefits have you seen from doing this kind of meeting in the past?
Greater understanding of how MediaWiki is, and can be, used as a knowledge platform in intranet environments; Examine high profile MediaWiki deployments such as NASA's EVA Wiki Surface tools, resources, techniques and best practices for wikis in organizations large and small. Provide visibility into how organizations cope with the specific challenges of creating, nurturing and succeeding with their wiki projects.
  3. How will you let participants know about the meeting?
We've made repeated announcements on several WMF mailing lists [1] [2] [3] [4], and social media
  4. How will you keep participants engaged after the meeting is over?
MWStake holds open meetings on a monthly basis. We update information at mediawiki.org and https://mwstake.org We also have a slack channel
  5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
Having funds to pay Carl / Next Day Video will give professional results (examples) by someone who specifically focuses on conference video and has workflows and equipment to provide better outcomes.
    Hardware used to capture presentation
software to mix that with audio and video camera
    workflow manger
    deployment

Hosting these videos on archive.org, commons, YouTube, Vimeo and other sites will give better visibility into how the MediaWiki software product can empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop knowledge resources. With professional quality video, the professional image of the product is improved. We want to AVOID video results like this (no offense to organizers or presenters -- it's just an example of what you get when you have a volunteer setup a camera and a YouTube Live connection.)

Impact[edit]

Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some Global Metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.

  1. Number of total participants: approx 30, but still expected to grow, and obviously unlimited with video!
  2. Number of people who will help organize the event: Organizing committee of seven
