Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The label-a-thon is planned for one year to achieve one million Malayalam labels in Wikidata and present it on Wikidata's 9th birthday. We are doing this edit-a-thon for this complete year with some series of training sessions (mostly online due to current pandemic).

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

Notified the Malayalam wiki community through mailing list, social media channels like Telegram and WhatsApp, and the members of WikiProject Kerala on Wikidata. Will follow up with the community every month about the event progress.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

The organizing team includes Gnoeee, Ranjithsiji and other experienced community organizers.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The community has started a project in Wikidata namely WikiProject Kerala in the year 2018 followed by several events to increase the quality of data in Wikidata. On behalf of this project, several online and offline events were organized to introduce Wikidata to new editors and introduce tools that helps to contribute more data easily to experienced users. We are also planning to organize training sessions and some talks in every 2 weeks using Google suite in online because of the current pandemic and some of the community members are not locally available.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We have a group for discussing and interacting Wikidata related topics in Telegram. Users will be in touch with this group as well as the existing contributors and new contributors will be made sure to become part of WikiProject Kerala on Wikidata.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Currently there are no in-person events or activities scheduled due to the pandemic.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This idea for one million Malayalam labels campaign has been put forward because of the interest of several community members after conducting 'Online Workshop' and 'ONAM Label-a-thon' in the last 2-3 months. A recording platform is necessary for recording the sessions so that participants can check the recordings later if they need. Along with this label-a-thon event, we are also planning to introduce other projects we are working on in Wikidata to improve the data quality and how they can participate.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events: 22 (2 events per month)
  2. Number of participants: 30
  3. Number of new editors: 15
  4. Number of of items created or improved: 600000
  5. Number of repeated participants (for projects that include a series of events): 20
